Job Overview

The Catering Department at Maelor Hospital is responsible for providing meals, snacks, and beverages to patients, staff, and visitors. The Cook plays a vital role in this team, handling a variety of tasks connected to food preparation and service within a busy kitchen setting.

The Cook will collaborate closely with the Catering Team, Catering Coordinator, and Managers to ensure that dietary and nutritional needs—arising from clinical, cultural, or religious considerations—are met effectively.

Main Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook meals using raw and base ingredients, including regeneration of pre-prepared specialist and cook-freeze foods.
• Assist Catering Supervisors with daily supervision and coordination of kitchen staff.
• Maintain a clean and safe working environment in compliance with hygiene standards.

Candidate Profile

We seek an enthusiastic, dependable, and motivated individual who holds City & Guilds 706/1, 706/2, or an equivalent qualification, along with a Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate or the willingness to obtain it upon starting. Prior experience as a chef, especially serving large groups, is advantageous.

Essential qualities include strong teamwork, leadership abilities, clear communication, and organizational skills. Candidates should be self-driven, able to work independently, adapt flexibly to changing shifts, and maintain a professional and approachable demeanor.

Working Conditions and Benefits

The position offers permanent employment with a weekly commitment of 37.5 hours. Shifts cover a rota between 6:00 AM–2:00 PM and/or 9:30 AM–5:30 PM, including weekends and bank holidays as required. The Health Board provides excellent working conditions, including paid holidays, enhanced weekend pay, and the opportunity to participate in the Superannuation Pension Scheme.
