Job Overview
We are seeking a committed Cook to join our team at Keda Ceramics International Limited in Miwani, Kisumu County. The individual will be responsible for preparing and cooking high-grade, safe, and aesthetically appealing meals following approved recipes and schedules. This role involves managing daily kitchen activities efficiently in a high-demand environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare authentic Chinese and other designated dishes adhering to established recipes and quality benchmarks.
- Perform food preparation tasks including washing, peeling, chopping, marinating, seasoning, and portioning ingredients.
- Operate kitchen appliances such as woks, burners, ovens, steamers, and fryers with safety and efficiency.
- Ensure timely preparation and serving of meals especially during peak periods consistent with required quantities.
- Maintain constant quality, taste, portion sizes, presentation, and freshness of food served.
- Oversee food quality and the storage of raw materials ensuring freshness and suitability for use.
- Adhere strictly to food safety protocols including hygiene, sanitation, and handling procedures.
- Keep the kitchen, cooking areas, equipment, utensils, refrigerators, and storage spaces clean and orderly.
- Properly cover, store, label, and handle cooked food to avoid contamination.
- Collaborate with kitchen team members to coordinate meal preparation and service efficiently.
- Prepare the dining and serving areas by ensuring cleanliness, organization, and appropriate setup prior to meal times.
- Comply with all company policies on health, safety, hygiene, and operational practices.
- Carry out any additional kitchen and catering duties as assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications and Experience
- Possess a Certificate or Diploma in Hospitality Management, Food Production, Culinary Arts or related disciplines.
- Have between 1 to 3 years of relevant cooking experience within hotels, restaurants, institutional kitchens, catering services, or other busy food service settings.
- Experience with Chinese cuisine is an advantage.
- Demonstrated ability to produce diverse dishes with consistent taste and quality.
- Basic understanding of food safety standards, hygiene practices, kitchen sanitation, and storage methods.
- Strong teamwork, communication, organizational, and time management capabilities.
- Physically capable of standing for long durations and coping with the physical demands of a busy kitchen.
