Work Schedule
This full-time role supports dining facility functions seven days a week at Smith Barracks in Baumholder, Germany. Shifts are 8 hours long and scheduled based on meal-service demand. Weekday operations run approximately from 5:15 AM to 7:30 PM, while weekend, U.S., and training holidays have shifts from about 6:15 AM to 6:30 PM.
Role Overview
The Cook position involves preparing and serving meals at the Castle Inn Dining Facility (Building 8311) and Knights Lair Dining Facility (Building 8544). The role includes supporting various meal services such as breakfast, lunch, dinner, brunch, and supper by cooking menu items adhering to authorized Army recipes and maintaining food safety and hygiene standards. The position aims to ensure efficient meal service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook menu items for all meals following approved recipes and production timetables.
- Ensure food safety protocols, sanitation standards, temperature monitoring, and personal hygiene are consistently upheld in preparation and serving areas.
- Operate kitchen machinery safely and maintain equipment properly.
- Help in setting up serving lines and ensure food preparation aligns with schedules.
- Store, label, rotate, and manage food inventory to maintain quality and minimize waste.
Candidate Requirements
- Demonstrated professional experience in food preparation and cooking, especially in high-volume dining settings.
- Proficient in English to comprehend and follow Armed Forces Recipe Card System instructions.
- Possession of valid work authorization or documentation permitting employment legally in Germany.
- Obtain and maintain a German health certificate (Gesundheitszeugnis) according to the 43 Infektionsschutzgesetz.
- Completion of food safety, sanitation, and relevant equipment training is mandatory.
- Physical ability to stand for extended durations and lift or carry up to around 45 pounds.
