Job Summary
Vertiv is looking for a proactive and driven Contract Management Specialist to join the Commercial Department. This hands-on role focuses on identifying, preparing, and securing Change Orders across active projects and managing client disputes and claims. The role involves supporting Project Managers with daily commercial and contractual matters during project execution.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Identify early changes, scope variations, and deviations in projects assigned.
- Assist in preparing and substantiating Change Order submissions with full commercial and financial justification.
- Ensure all change events are promptly notified according to contract terms to safeguard entitlements.
- Maintain Change Order logs and trackers with regular updates to teams and senior management.
- Drive Change Order agreement and recovery processes including client negotiations and disagreement resolutions.
- Support Project Managers in commercial evaluations of client instructions, drawing changes, and scope revisions to determine entitlement.
- Prepare and submit extension of time requests when changes affect project schedules.
- Serve as the commercial liaison for Project Managers on Change Order and claim issues throughout project implementation.
- Offer guidance on contractual notifications, entitlements, and commercial risks to project teams.
- Collaborate with planning staff to assess schedule impacts and build supporting time-related claim narratives.
- Help prepare monthly valuations and payment applications ensuring all Change Orders are properly recorded and valued.
- Contribute to commercial assessments and provide clear reports regarding Change Order statuses and recovery rates.
- Manage client-side disputes including back-charges and contra-charges by conducting detailed technical and commercial analyses.
- Draft detailed responses to client claims articulating the firm's contractual stance.
- Defend against improper charges by assembling strong evidential documentation.
- Communicate professionally with clients to settle disputes amicably.
- Support formal claim processes when resolutions are not mutual.
- Document and maintain comprehensive evidence and audit trails to uphold the company's position in disputes.
Candidate Requirements
- Between 3 to 5 years of experience in commercial, contract management, or quantity surveying roles within construction or engineering, ideally with electrical or mechanical project experience.
- Holder of a bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Law, Engineering, Commercial Management, or related fields.
- Proven track record in preparing and recovering Change Orders or variations in construction/engineering.
- Experience managing customer disputes, back-charges, or claims.
- Strong knowledge of contractual notification requirements and practical application.
- Self-driven and capable of working independently while fostering strong multidisciplinary team relationships.
- Excellent negotiation and persuasion skills.
- High analytical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and meticulous attention to detail.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for clear contractual correspondence.
- Working familiarity with ERP systems and document management software.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
