Role Overview

The Compliance Manager plays a critical role within our Risk & Compliance team, ensuring regulatory standards are clearly interpreted and embedded throughout the organisation to maintain member trust and guarantee fair outcomes. This role supports leaders, project teams, and operational units by providing practical compliance advice and aids the development of our compliance framework to manage risks and strengthen controls in daily operations. As regulatory requirements evolve, especially regarding CoFI legislation, you will be a key advisor on compliance matters across business changes and initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain and improve the compliance obligations register using the enterprise risk management system.
• Analyze compliance risks, incidents, and issues, and offer guidance on effective solutions.
• Review effectiveness of regulatory controls and assist frontline teams in continuous enhancement.
• Develop and deliver compliance training, tools, and resources to boost organisational capability.
• Translate complex legislative and regulatory requirements into straightforward, easy-to-understand guidance for all business areas.
• Maintain compliance documentation, training modules, and procedural processes.
• Provide advisory support for compliance-related incidents, breaches, and near misses.
• Prepare detailed compliance reports for the Board and governance committees.
• Assist with preparation and submission of regulatory returns.
• Collaborate with leadership to embed strong compliance practices and promote a robust risk culture.
• Conduct compliance monitoring and validation to ensure business activities and controls meet regulatory standards, recommending improvements to fix any control weaknesses.

Qualifications and Experience

• Law degree is mandatory, with solid knowledge of New Zealand financial services regulation.
• Experience in compliance, risk, or regulatory roles within banks, insurers, or other regulated financial service entities.
• Skilled at interpreting legislation and converting regulatory mandates into actionable business guidance.
• Familiarity with compliance and risk management frameworks, systems, and regulatory reporting.
• Strong ability to engage stakeholders using a practical, solution-oriented approach to managing compliance risks.
