About Metcash and the Role

Metcash is currently transforming its New Zealand liquor division into a fully retail-focused organization under the Allied Retail Group (ARG), supporting over 380 independent liquor retail stores across The Bottle-O, Liquor Centre, and Merchants Liquor brands. As the second-largest specialist liquor retail group in New Zealand, ARG is embarking on a period of growth backed by its ASX-listed parent, Metcash.

We are looking to add a commercially astute and motivated Commercial Accountant to our Auckland team in a permanent full-time capacity. This role blends financial accounting, commercial analysis, and business partnership, requiring close collaboration with stakeholders to generate financial reports, manage budgets, and deliver insightful performance analysis. You will also support franchise operations, supplier funding, and strategic initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce monthly management accounts with detailed supporting analysis.
• Manage journals, accruals, prepayments, and account reconciliations.
• Administer the ARG Alliance Agreement completion and establish accounts.
• Oversee accounts payable and receivable procedures.
• Collaborate with the Metcash Tax team to prepare and lodge GST, FBT, and other regulatory returns.
• Support compliance with New Zealand accounting standards and taxation regulations.
• Promote a collaborative finance team culture emphasizing accountability, customer service, and continuous improvement.
• Maintain the general ledger ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial records.

Ideal Candidate Profile

• Possess 3 to 5+ years of accounting experience in a commercial context.
• Competent in intermediate to advanced Excel and Power BI.
• Skilled in preparing journals, reconciliations, and month-end reports.
• Demonstrated ability to convert data into strategic business insights.
• Experience with budgeting and forecasting processes.
• Background in sectors such as retail, FMCG, wholesale, franchise, or consumer goods.
• Familiarity with supplier rebates, trading terms, or promotional funding arrangements.
