Position Overview

The Color Assist role at Company 3 in Toronto is a crucial support position within the Picture team, focused on enabling smooth colour grading processes from initial ingestion to final output. The role demands adaptability to new technologies and workflows, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to offering operational and creative aid to colourists.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist colourists during supervised client sessions, adhering to instructions from Colourists and Production Management.
• Colour-trace all project updates across different versions meticulously.
• Ensure every necessary element like drop-ins, mattes, and conform references are present and ready.
• Prepare colour suites in advance to meet project requirements before sessions begin.
• Coordinate with Production and Operations teams to obtain all outstanding media required to complete projects.
• Maintain excellent quality standards in all deliverables for long-form finishing.
• Log and complete assigned daily tasks accurately using task management tools.
• Develop and update centralized workflow documentation continuously.
• Stay updated on advances in software, grading techniques, and relevant technology, assessing new tools and processes when necessary.
• Evaluate test shoots and collaborate with Directors of Photography and other teams when needed.

• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to juggle multiple priorities.
• Familiarity with common multimedia file formats.
• Effective communication with the ability to work well with diverse stakeholders.
• Highly organized, detail-focused, and able to work efficiently under pressure.
• Collaborative attitude, eagerness to learn, and ready to contribute as part of a team.
• Flexibility to work overtime or weekends on short notice aligned with project demands.
• Shift patterns are assigned by Production and may vary.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in post-production, especially within colour grading or finishing departments.
• Knowledge of industry-standard colour grading tools such as DaVinci Resolve or Baselight.
• Basic understanding of video codecs, colour science, and file management workflows.
• Experience collaborating directly with clients or creative teams in supervised sessions.
• Exposure to projects like documentaries, series, or feature-length films.
