ClickHouse Solutions Engineer

About the Role

Primary Responsibilities

• Devote approximately 75% of your time to supporting customers by guiding them in designing schemas, planning clusters, and building robust ClickHouse systems—from single-node setups to extensive clusters involving hundreds of nodes, including usage of Altinity.Cloud, our managed service.
• Engage actively with the community through platforms like GitHub, Stack Overflow, and Telegram to provide support and share expertise.
• Spend around 25% of your time on research and development, exploring new usage patterns, ClickHouse features, integrations with other technologies, and infrastructure projects.
• Contribute technical articles to Altinity’s blog and internal knowledge base to share insights and improve documentation.
• Participate in enhancing ClickHouse by fixing bugs, creating test cases, and improving documentation.

Required Qualifications

• Proven hands-on experience with ClickHouse is mandatory.
• Strong expertise in SQL for at least one database system like MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, or SQL Server.
• Proficiency in Linux shell scripting and bash.
• Experience managing production-grade data systems.
• Effective technical communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
• Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes basics for container orchestration and deployment.
• Fundamental understanding of distributed systems and big data technologies.
• Competency in at least one programming language such as Python, C++, Java, or Go.
• A university degree in IT, mathematics, or related fields, or commensurate industry experience.

Desirable Skills

• Operational knowledge of Kubernetes.
• Experience with big data stack technologies including Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, and Nifi.
• Background in data science or data analysis.
• Familiarity with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) or DevOps tools like Prometheus, Ansible, and ELK stack.
• Proficiency with git version control system.

A Typical Day

• Respond to and resolve customer support inquiries related to deploying, upgrading, connecting to, and operating ClickHouse.
• Diagnose complex issues by identifying root causes and formulating effective solutions.
• Undertake research projects, contribute to ClickHouse development, and explore new technologies relevant to our platform.
