Clearance Specialist, Supply Chain

About the Role

The Clearance Specialist position is responsible for managing customs clearance for imports and exports, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and company policies. The role demands precise document preparation, effective collaboration with involved parties, and timely processing to support operational flow.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and process import and export documentation following customs regulations and company directives.
• File clearance applications with designated authorities and track approval progress.
• Confirm accurate HS codes, tariff classifications, and duty computations for shipments.
• Liaise with freight forwarders, shipping carriers, and customs agents to facilitate prompt shipment clearance and delivery.
• Coordinate with internal departments to provide shipment updates and resolve any clearance-related challenges.
• Monitor schedules for inbound and outbound shipments to meet operational deadlines.
• Maintain awareness of customs laws, trade regulations, tariff updates, and trade agreements, ensuring compliance.
• Assist during customs audits and inspections.
• Organize and archive key shipment and clearance documentation including invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin, and permits.
• Resolve delays or discrepancies in clearance by collaborating with suppliers, carriers, and regulatory bodies; escalate complex issues as needed.
• Document and report on clearance metrics such as lead times, costs, and delays, and recommend improvements to efficiency and cost management.

Additional Responsibilities

• Continuously upgrade both soft and technical skills relevant to the role.
• Execute tasks aligned with operational and developmental targets within timelines and budget.
• Generate reports analyzing deviations and execution of assigned duties.
• Identify and address operational problems promptly, escalating complex cases appropriately.
• Implement and uphold quality standards and controls in clearance processes.
• Promote process improvements, including automation and standardization of policies and procedures.
• Comply with internal policies and external regulations.
• Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental protocols within assigned areas.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or a related discipline.
• 2 to 4 years of relevant professional experience.

Technical Skills

• Logistics analysis and network management.
