Job description
Overview
As a Cleaner with the Education Authority in Carrickfergus, Northern Ireland, you will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness across various designated areas within the premises, operating under the direction of a Cleaning Supervisor or authorized personnel. This role requires adherence to Health and Safety regulations and a commitment to the organization's values and standards.
Key Duties
- Perform sweeping, suction cleaning, mopping, dry buffing, spray cleaning, waxing, machine scrubbing, drying, stripping, and re-polishing of floors using suitable equipment.
- Clean and remove stains from soft floor coverings such as carpets and matting utilizing appropriate methods.
- Sanitize toilet and shower areas, including all fixtures and fittings.
- Wash and dust ledges, walls, fixtures, fittings, and internal surfaces up to a height of 3.35 meters, polishing furniture when needed.
- Empty and clean internal litter bins, disposing of waste at designated collection points.
Working Conditions and Compliance
- Comply with the Health and Safety at Work (NI) Order 1978, relevant legislation, COSHH regulations, and Codes of Practice.
- Use protective clothing and flat-soled enclosed-toe footwear as issued during cleaning tasks.
- Handle cleaning equipment responsibly, reporting any faults immediately.
- Complete all necessary paperwork accurately.
- Provide cover for colleagues during sickness as per Authority procedures.
- Work within conditions typical for the role and perform duties up to and including tasks within your grade and competence.
Training and Development
- Participate in induction, refresher, and any higher-level training required to perform duties effectively.
Person Specification
- Demonstrate ability to use initiative, work under pressure, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively in a team.
- Exhibit strong communication skills in English, both in following instructions and interpersonal interactions.
- Show organisational and planning capabilities, alongside a flexible attitude towards work.
- Commit to the Education Authority's ethos and values, including equality and excellence in service provision.
Essential Requirements
- Knowledge of school cleaning tasks, cleaning methods and machinery, health and safety requirements including COSHH.
- Willingness to undertake necessary Health and Safety training provided by the Authority.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
- At least three months of cleaning experience in environments outside the home.
- Practical experience using various commercial cleaning equipment such as buffing machines.
Additional Information
- The post involves regulated activity under the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (Northern Ireland) Order 2007; therefore, an enhanced disclosure check is required, costing £33 payable by the successful candidate.
