Job description
Position Overview
We seek a highly skilled Software Architect and Engineering Chapter Lead to define and nurture the technical culture and engineering excellence within our IT division. This leadership role entails being the custodian of software craftsmanship, ensuring that all developed systems are robust, maintainable, observable, and enduring. Beyond individual architectural contributions, you will energize our Engineering Chapter, fostering a community that promotes mentorship, adherence to standards, and continuous quality improvement among engineers.
Main Responsibilities
- Instill Clean Code principles (such as SOLID, DRY, YAGNI) as non-negotiable standards across all development teams.
- Manage the engineering quality framework, including code review policies, static code analysis, test coverage mandates, and performance benchmarks.
- Lead by example by actively contributing to key codebases, conducting thorough technical code reviews, and pairing with engineers to model exemplary practices.
- Promote adoption of Test-Driven Development (TDD) and Behaviour-Driven Development (BDD) methodologies to enhance correctness and documentation quality.
- Establish and enforce Definition of Done (DoD) criteria incorporating architectural, security, and performance quality controls.
- Architect comprehensive, end-to-end solutions for capital markets platforms covering pricing engines, order management, risk, and post-trade workflows, emphasizing low latency, fault tolerance, and auditability.
- Define and oversee technology standards, architectural patterns, and reference designs across the IT division.
- Lead architectural reviews and manage Architectural Decision Records (ADRs) with peer review and clear communication.
- Balance immediate delivery demands with sustainable architectural integrity through transparent trade-offs.
- Advocate for event-driven, domain-driven, and cloud-native architectural approaches where suitable.
- Integrate Generative AI (GenAI) and Agentic AI technologies into engineering workflows to accelerate coding, testing, documentation, and issue resolution.
- Create reusable components such as GenAI assistants, prompt libraries, automated test generators, and code refactoring tools.
- Collaborate with AI governance teams to ensure secure, compliant, and responsible use of AI models.
- Measure and communicate productivity, quality, and cycle-time enhancements enabled by GenAI tools.
- Lead and expand the Engineering Chapter community to promote ongoing learning via chapter sessions, tech talks, architectural presentations, refactoring workshops, and book clubs.
- Maintain a shared engineering competency framework and career progression ladder for software engineers.
- Mentor senior/principal engineers with structured coaching aligned to growth objectives.
- Work closely with Tribe Leads and Product Owners to maintain engineering quality despite delivery pressures.
- Manage the technology radar for Capital Markets IT by evaluating and adopting new technologies in partnership with global teams.
- Conduct due diligence of vendor products, open-source software, and cloud services.
- Track and report key engineering health indicators such as code quality, deployment frequency, mean time to recovery (MTTR), and change failure rates.
- Partner with Cloud, Security, and Infrastructure teams to embed shift-left practices into the software development lifecycle.
Qualifications and Profile
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Programming & Systems Analysis, or related scientific fields.
- Proven AI proficiency, including effective use of AI-driven tools like GitHub Copilot to enhance productivity and problem-solving.
- Sound knowledge of AI/ML fundamentals, prompt engineering, model limitations, and best practices for human-AI collaboration.
- Experience assessing AI-generated outputs for accuracy, security, and business alignment.
- Ability to identify suitable areas for AI integration and automation within existing workflows.
- A minimum of 10 years in software engineering with at least 4 years in principal, staff, or architect roles.
- Strong hands-on expertise in at least one main programming language ecosystem, including:
- Java/Kotlin with frameworks like Spring Boot, Project Loom, and GraalVM.
- Python ecosystem covering asyncio, Cython, and numerical libraries like NumPy and Pandas (for quantitative workflows).
- Modern C++20, knowledge of lock-free data structures, FPGA/kernel bypass highly valued.
- Extensive domain experience in Capital Markets IT, including trading systems, risk engines, order routing, or post-trade processing.
- Design experience for distributed systems requiring strong consistency, exactly-once processing semantics, and sub-millisecond latencies.
- Hands-on with messaging infrastructures such as Kafka, Solace, or comparable low-latency brokers.
- Experience designing cloud architectures on AWS, Azure, or GCP with hybrid cloud proficiency in regulated financial environments.
- Applied experience utilizing GenAI and Agentic AI frameworks within corporate engineering contexts.
- Committed advocate of Clean Code and software craftsmanship, able to educate and enforce these principles.
- Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines with integrated quality gates using tools like SonarQube, Checkmarx, Veracode, or equivalents.
- Comprehensive knowledge of software testing strategies including unit, integration, contract, performance, and chaos engineering.
- Familiarity with Domain-Driven Design (DDD), Event Sourcing, and Command Query Responsibility Segregation (CQRS) patterns in financial domains.
