Job Summary

The Cart Clerk is responsible for collecting shopping carts from the parking lot and inside the store, ensuring a friendly and courteous service experience to both customers and coworkers. This role involves physical labor, use of machinery, and maintaining cleanliness in various store areas.

Key Responsibilities

• Greet and engage customers with friendly and enthusiastic service, focusing on customer care.
• Manually collect carts and operate a remote-controlled cart pusher to gather and organize carts, including stray carts inside the store.
• Remove litter from parking areas, planters, and cart storage areas.
• Empty recycling bins for glass, aluminum, and plastic and organize bins for pick-up.
• Perform additional duties as required.

Requirements

• Deliver friendly, courteous service to customers and coworkers consistently.
• Be available to work varied shifts primarily from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Physically able to walk, push, pull, and maneuver grocery carts occasionally weighing up to 100 lbs.
• Reach, bend, and pick items up from ground level regularly.
• Stand, walk, and move quickly for extended periods.
• Work outside in various weather conditions, including cold, heat, and inclement weather.
• Maintain situational awareness and safety while working in the parking lot.
• Recognize when carts need to be collected and respond appropriately.
• Exhibit effective customer relations skills.
• Learn and follow safety and department policies and procedures.
• Hear auditory signals such as paging systems and customer inquiries.
• Lift up to 40 lbs frequently from the floor to heights of 6 feet.
• Wear a reflective safety vest while working outdoors.
• Be at least 16 years of age or older.
• Perform duties efficiently and accurately.
• Possess a valid Food Handler’s Certification as required by state law.

Equipment Operated

• Use a cart mover device with its associated remote control system.
• Operate a manual pallet jack.

Compensation

The pay range for this position is between $17.15 and $29.90 per hour.
