About the Role
Joining Air Canada means becoming part of an iconic Canadian brand, recently recognized as the best airline in North America. This position supports cargo operations within Australia, addressing all cargo office requirements at the Sydney station.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the station's Unit Load Device (ULD) inventory, coordinating with Cargo Network Control YYZ and Ground Handling Agents (GHA) to ensure adequate equipment is available to support cargo operations.
- Implement flight load plans and collaborate with warehouse and ramp teams to optimize space and weight utilization for each flight.
- Oversee timely and accurate data entry performed by GHAs, verifying shipment and ULD data within cargo and load control systems.
- Ensure that GHA activities comply strictly with Air Canada's safety policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Maintain positive relationships with interline carriers to facilitate smooth transit cargo transfers.
- Monitor Cargo iQ performance scores and initiate corrective measures to improve them.
- Support and supervise GHAs in planning load operations and entering data into weight and balance systems.
- Coordinate ramp activities and provide customer support for inquiries related to imports, exports, and cargo movements within Australia.
- Address irregularities and operational disruptions efficiently.
- Manage office inventory needs including forms, labels, and stationery, ensuring timely replenishment.
- Oversee sensitive product shipments (e.g., valuables, human remains, live animals) during ULD build-up to prevent theft or damage inside the cargo terminal.
- Track uncleared Air Waybills (AWB) and coordinate with GHAs and overseas offices to resolve pending clearances.
- Be prepared to assist with ramp duties during loading supervision and work according to designated rosters.
- Collaborate closely with GHA and sales teams to optimize ULD build-ups and maximize utilization of space and weight capacity.
- Verify that all shipment documents comply with Air Canada standards and SOPs, ensuring cargo safety and security.
- Coordinate various parties including GHAs in the event of aircraft groundings for maintenance, managing cargo rebooking and related actions.
- Engage proactively with GHA representatives to build strong working relationships.
- Participate in regular meetings with GHAs to address operational issues and improvements.
- Undertake additional duties as directed by the Manager.
Qualifications
- Possession of an undergraduate degree.
- Solid understanding and knowledge of the airfreight industry.
- At least five years of relevant work experience in cargo operations or related roles.
Additional Information
Employment Conditions: Candidates must be authorized to work in Australia, ensuring any necessary permits, visas, or approvals are obtained before employment. Proof of eligibility to work will be required prior to starting.
Linguistic Requirements: Fluency in English both spoken and written is mandatory. Knowledge of additional languages is considered an advantage.
