Job description
Role Summary
A Canada Payroll Professional ensures accurate collection, validation, and processing of payroll data to guarantee timely employee payments while adhering to Canadian labor and tax regulations.
Core Responsibilities
- Keep employee records updated with attendance, leave, overtime, and other payroll-related details.
- Compute and cross-check payroll components such as base pay, overtime, bonuses, vacation pay, and deductions like taxes, union fees, garnishments, and insurance.
- Prepare and execute payroll disbursements for regular wages, benefits, and special payments.
- Produce and confirm earnings statements reflecting gross/net salary, deductions, and contributions.
- Manage benefit-related paperwork, including pensions and medical insurance documentation.
- Submit mandatory payroll filings, including year-end tax forms and Records of Employment.
- Offer payroll-related guidance and support to staff and management concerning benefits and collective agreements.
- Compile, analyze payroll and benefits reports, and reconcile payroll accounts with bank statements.
- Detect and address payroll inconsistencies quickly.
- Contribute to the creation or enhancement of payroll policies and procedures as needed.
Working Conditions
- Standard workweek exceeds 40 hours, primarily in an office environment.
- Indoor, controlled setting often in close proximity to coworkers.
- Work primarily sedentary involving repetitive computer tasks and occasional manual handling.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of credentials; preference for coursework in accounting, bookkeeping, or payroll administration.
- Skills: Expertise with payroll software, meticulous attention to detail, strong organizational abilities, solid understanding of Canadian payroll and tax legislations, and discretion in managing confidential employee data. Familiarity with Workday, ADP, and Google Workspace.
- Experience: Between three to five years working with payroll systems under Canadian employment laws and compliance standards.
- Certification: Payroll association accreditation is mandatory or strongly preferred.
