Cafe Worker

Job Summary

A position is open for a dependable and customer-oriented Cafe Worker to assist in daily food service operations. The role involves taking customer orders, preparing and serving food and drinks, handling payment systems, and maintaining cleanliness across customer and work areas. The candidate will also support teammates during busy periods.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve food and beverages for on-site consumption and takeaway customers.
• Assist in preparing menu items such as pizzas, burgers, pasta, risotto, sides, desserts, and drinks following standard procedures.
• Accurately take customer orders and communicate them effectively to kitchen staff.
• Process customer orders through the ordering system and help coordinate pickups and deliveries.
• Manage cash registers and point-of-sale terminals, handling cash and electronic payments and issuing receipts or invoices when necessary.
• Deliver completed food and beverage orders to customers and respond to their inquiries.
• Clear dining areas of used dishes, utensils, and cups promptly.
• Clean and prepare tables and service areas between customers.
• Wash dishes, cutlery, and food service tools as needed.
• Maintain cleanliness and upkeep of cafe equipment, food prep surfaces, and service gear.
• Ensure hygiene and cleanliness in all customer, counter, and work areas according to food safety standards.
• Assist with receiving, checking, storing, and rotating incoming stock.
• Replenish beverages, packaging, condiments, and supplies as required.
• Help keep an organized service area to ensure timely and accurate customer order delivery.
• Adhere to workplace health, safety, food hygiene, and sanitation protocols at all times.

Candidate Profile

• Hold an AQF Certificate I, equivalent qualification, or relevant secondary education.
• Previous experience in a café, restaurant, takeaway, or similar food service setting is preferred.
• Basic understanding of food preparation and drink service methods.
• Knowledge of food hygiene, cleanliness, and safe food handling procedures.
• Strong customer service aptitude and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced food service environment.
• Friendly and professional demeanor when interacting with customers.
• Competence in accurately taking and processing customer orders.
• Capability to operate cash and point-of-sale systems efficiently.
• Attention to maintaining cleanliness, hygiene, and attractive food presentation standards.
