Job Overview
Reporting to the General Manager, the Barista is responsible for various duties essential to the efficient operation of the café, following established service standards.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Primarily work independently during shifts, with support available when needed.
- Operate café equipment to prepare coffee, specialty drinks, bottled beverages, and baked or prepared treats.
- Maintain cleanliness consistent with local, state, and federal health and safety regulations.
- Perform regular daily and weekly cleaning tasks including sanitizing food prep surfaces, machinery, utensils, and customer spaces.
- Organize and stock café merchandise consistent with company procedures to ensure a neat and orderly shopping environment.
- Provide warm greetings and exceptional customer service to all café and store visitors.
- Promote point-of-sale initiatives such as discount cards, magazine sales, pre-sale vouchers, and donation drives.
- Accurately balance cash drawers at shift end in compliance with Loss Prevention Policy guidelines.
- Offer assistance to bookstore operations as necessary.
- Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 16 years old.
- Successful clearance of all required background checks.
Preferred Skills and Competencies
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Capable of multitasking in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in using and learning to operate multiple café machines such as blenders, ovens, and espresso machines.
- Competent in computer and cash register operations.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to self-manage.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods.
- Use hands and arms for repetitive tasks like keyboard and telephone use.
- Capable of lifting or assisting in lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Effective communication through speech, sight, and hearing, with or without assistive devices.
- Ability to climb, bend, stoop, crouch, and perform other physical activities required during the shift.
