Job description

About the Role

We are partnering with a well-established Canadian construction firm expanding its footprint in Ontario and seeking a Business Development Manager driven to create growth opportunities. This position involves proactively opening doors, fostering relationships, identifying opportunities ahead of competitors, and converting conversations into tangible business outcomes.

The ideal candidate may come from diverse backgrounds within the construction ecosystem, such as general contracting, consulting engineering, architecture, subtrades, development, or related fields. What matters most is a solid grasp of the construction market dynamics, project lifecycle, relationship building, and a proven success record in generating new business. This role presents an opportunity to establish one’s name by significantly contributing to the company's expansion in Ontario.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify new business prospects throughout the Ontario construction sector, including potential clients and upcoming projects.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with a wide range of stakeholders including developers, owners, architects, engineers, consultants, contractors, and subtrades.
  • Leverage your existing network while actively cultivating new industry connections.
  • Focus on early-stage opportunities rather than waiting for formal solicitations.
  • Maintain keen awareness of market activities to spot projects before they officially launch.
  • Transform market insights and relationships into a structured business development pipeline.
  • Collaborate with leadership, estimating, preconstruction, operations, and marketing teams to evaluate viable opportunities.
  • Engage in client interactions including meetings, presentations, and pursuit strategy sessions.
  • Position the company strategically with new clients to encourage repeat business.
  • Maintain visibility on active deals and evolving relationships for future growth.
  • Represent the organization at industry events, networking gatherings, and client functions.

Candidate Profile and Requirements

  • Approximately 5 to 10 years of pertinent business or client development experience within sectors related to construction.
  • Background may include general contracting, consulting engineering, architecture, construction subtrades, development, or commercial real estate.
  • A proactive "hunter" attitude with a demonstrated track record of establishing new client relationships beyond managing existing accounts.
  • Proven personal impact in securing new clients, opportunities, or measurable business growth.
  • Strong familiarity with the processes involved in construction project development, influencing, bidding, and awarding.
  • Established network within Ontario’s construction, development, or real estate spheres.
  • Comfortable engaging senior leaders, owners, developers, consultants, and key industry decision-makers.
  • Sharp commercial judgment to prioritize promising relationships and projects.
  • Ability to confidently present, network, and represent the company publicly.
  • Persistence and organizational skill to handle lengthy sales cycles and multiple simultaneous relationship developments.
  • A passion for building and expanding business; an ambition beyond merely holding a title.
  • Experience in multi-residential, commercial, hospitality, and other private sector construction, with additional value placed on institutional, post-secondary, and municipal markets.

Compensation and Additional Information

The salary range for this position is $120,000 to $150,000 per year, complemented by a benefits package, contingent on experience, skills, qualifications, and overall suitability.

Applications from all qualified individuals are encouraged. Reasonable accommodations are provided during recruitment as needed. The company does not use artificial intelligence for hiring decisions; all candidates are evaluated by the recruitment team.
