Overview

The position of Building Custodian is available at Sloat Junior High within Coweta Public Schools for the 2026-2027 academic year. This role entails various custodial duties to maintain cleanliness and order across the school premises with reporting responsibilities to the building principal.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Physical requirements include the ability to stand and walk for 8 hours continuously and engage in frequent bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, crouching, and squatting.
  • Must be capable of kneeling, climbing, and reaching above shoulder height.
  • Physically able to lift and carry weights up to 24 pounds regularly, with occasional lifts up to 75 pounds.
  • Able to move heavy items such as furniture, machines, or boxes of books weighing as much as 100 pounds.
  • Requires manual dexterity for operating cleaning equipment like sweepers, vacuums, and mops.
  • Exposure to cleaning-related irritants such as toxic gases, fumes, and dust is expected.
  • The superintendent may approve acceptable alternatives to these qualifications.

Contract Details

  • Employment term is 11 months, totaling 230 working days.
  • Work schedule involves an 8-hour shift per day.
  • Reports directly to the building principal and is evaluated by the same.
  • No supervisory responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cleaning duties including vacuuming, dusting, sweeping, and mopping of classrooms and hallways daily.
  • Daily maintenance and cleaning of restrooms, ensuring supply replenishment and paper maintenance.
  • Regular emptying and relining of trash receptacles.
  • Collecting trash across school grounds.
  • Cleaning windows and window blinds.
  • Waxing floors and cleaning carpets as required.
  • Ensuring the building is securely locked at the end of each shift.
  • Monitoring and adjusting heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems within the building.
  • Thermostat management during the shift.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned by the supervisor or superintendent.
