Role Overview
Tauranga is one of New Zealand's fastest-growing cities, featuring numerous significant residential and commercial developments. The Building Services team plays a vital part in ensuring these structures are safe, compliant, and suitable for residents, workers, and visitors alike.
We are seeking a skilled Building Control Officer - Processing to join our high-performing team. The role involves evaluating and certifying building consent applications by meticulously reviewing plans and documentation to verify compliance with the Building Act 2004, Building Code, and relevant regulations. The position entails offering clear technical guidance to customers and industry professionals, making informed decisions, and ensuring timely processing within statutory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate building consent applications, including plans and technical documents, for residential, commercial, and industrial projects.
- Verify adherence to the Building Act 2004, Building Code, and associated regulations.
- Certify applications, ensuring accurate and timely consent decisions.
- Provide practical and clear technical advice to clients, designers, and professionals.
- Interpret legislation, standards, and acceptable solutions consistently.
- Maintain precise records and complete necessary processing paperwork.
- Collaborate with colleagues to uphold consistent, high-quality decision-making.
- Support and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within Building Services.
Qualifications and Skills
- Possessing Regulation 18 qualification under the Building (Accreditation of Building Consent Authorities) Regulations 2006.
- Current competency in residential or commercial building consent processing.
- Demonstrated experience in building consent processing or related building control roles.
- Solid understanding of the Building Act 2004, Building Code, and relevant regulations.
- Capability to interpret and apply legislation practically and consistently.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to clearly convey technical information to diverse audiences.
- Meticulous attention to detail with a methodical decision-making approach.
- Strong time-management skills to meet statutory deadlines.
- Team-oriented mindset with dedication to achieving beneficial outcomes for the community.
