The Role

As a Broadcast Solutions Engineer, you will contribute significantly to this goal by designing, integrating, and supporting the broadcast infrastructure that guarantees stable, resilient, and outstanding service delivery. Your expertise will help ensure live contributions, production, playout, and distribution processes deliver seamless and reliable moments to viewers across New Zealand at the high standards Sky is known for.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, integrate, and sustain broadcast systems covering contribution, production, playout, and distribution stages.
- Create and uphold detailed, auditable system designs that comply with architecture, security, and operational requirements.
- Install, configure, commission, and document broadcast systems preparing them for operational handover.
- Implement changes carefully within governance frameworks, minimizing risks to live broadcasting.
- Collaborate with support engineers and vendors to troubleshoot incidents promptly and introduce solutions to prevent recurring problems.
- Serve as the subject matter expert in broadcast engineering, applying up-to-date knowledge of SDI/IP technologies, industry standards, and trends.
Required Skills and Experience
- Practical broadcast engineering experience in live or mission-critical environments.
- Familiarity with SDI/IP broadcast systems and foundational IP networking concepts.
- Understanding of modern broadcast standards including ST 2110, NMOS, and SRT protocols.
- Experience working within incident management, change control, disaster recovery, and business continuity frameworks.
- Strong capability in documentation and effective collaboration with technical teams.
- Beneficial experience with APIs, orchestration platforms, automation frameworks, and control protocols.
- Knowledge or exposure to scripting, automation, version control, and software-defined, virtualized, cloud-connected, or IP-based broadcast setups.
