Job description

Company Overview

SGS is a global leader in Testing, Inspection, and Certification services, operating over 2,500 laboratories and facilities in 115 countries with a workforce of 99,500 professionals. With a legacy of more than 145 years, SGS is synonymous with precision and quality, helping organizations achieve compliance and sustainability objectives.

Role Overview

We are searching for a skilled BMS / SCADA Specialist to manage and oversee the design review, configuration, integration, testing, commissioning, and handover of Building Management Systems (BMS) and SCADA systems specifically for data centers and mission-critical projects in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). This position demands a robust practical knowledge of control systems, system integration, and data visualization, including effective collaboration with MEP, commissioning, IT, and operations teams to guarantee reliable and optimized monitoring and control systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead BMS and SCADA functions through all project phases: review design, configure software, support installations, execute testing and commissioning, conduct integrated systems testing, and finalize handover.
  • Examine and validate system architecture, control schematics, network topology, point lists, operational sequences, and graphical visualizations to confirm compliance with project needs and industry best practices for data centers.
  • Execute programming, configuration, testing, and troubleshooting of BMS and SCADA hardware and software components, including controllers, servers, HMIs, databases, and alarm systems.
  • Integrate BMS/SCADA with critical data center infrastructure such as UPS, generators, switchgear, HVAC systems, fire alarms, DCIM, and third-party equipment using industry-standard protocols like BACnet, Modbus, SNMP, and OPC.
  • Contribute to integrated systems testing to verify control logic, alarm functionality, failover mechanisms, redundancy, and operational sequence integrity.
  • Work closely with commissioning managers, engineers, equipment vendors, IT teams, contractors, and client representatives to ensure smooth project flow.
  • Oversee and participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and field tests, documenting and resolving any issues detected.
  • Generate and maintain comprehensive system documentation including configurations, test results, alarm matrices, logs, backups, and formal approvals.
  • Ensure systems meet project specifications, adhere to international standards and KSA regulations, and follow cybersecurity best practices where applicable.
  • Maintain health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards during all testing and commissioning phases.
  • Assist with preparation of operation and maintenance manuals, deliver operator training sessions, demonstrate system functionality, and manage the final turnover to operations teams.
  • Provide post-project support including system refinement and optimization during early operational stages if needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automation, Control Systems, or a related technical field.
  • Between 7 to 10 years of direct experience working with BMS and SCADA systems.
  • At least 3 to 5 years of specialized experience on data center or mission-critical projects is preferred.
  • Hands-on expertise with major BMS/SCADA platforms such as Siemens, Schneider Electric, Honeywell, Johnson Controls, ABB, or Rockwell.
  • Proficient in industrial communication protocols including BACnet IP/MSTP, Modbus TCP/RTU, OPC, and SNMP.
  • Strong understanding of data center operational methodologies including redundancy models (N, N+1, 2N) and alarm management practices.
  • Skilled at interpreting control drawings, network layouts, and operational sequences.
