Job description
About the Employer
The employer is a prominent engineering and manufacturing firm specializing in the design and production of modular mechanical plant rooms and comprehensive packaged engineering solutions. They maintain a technically proficient BIM and engineering team committed to delivering sophisticated mechanical systems for major construction and engineering endeavors. This organization provides an excellent learning environment for BIM professionals seeking to advance their expertise in detailed design, off-site manufacturing, and project execution.
Role Overview
As a BIM Coordinator, you will be responsible for leading the development and coordination of detailed BIM models specifically for modular mechanical plant rooms. This role requires ensuring that all designs are precise, well-coordinated, and optimized for both manufacturing and installation processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and coordinate detailed 3D BIM models for mechanical plant rooms and packaged plant systems.
- Manage coordination of mechanical services such as pipework, pumps, valves, HVAC equipment, and their supports.
- Conduct thorough reviews of models to detect clashes, accessibility challenges, and installation issues.
- Perform clash detection using Navisworks and collaborate with internal and external design teams to resolve issues.
- Produce coordinated construction drawings including builders’ work, fabrication, and installation details.
- Analyze client models, specifications, P&IDs, and other technical drawings for compliance and accuracy.
- Ensure BIM models align with approved designs, client requirements, and manufacturing constraints.
- Participate actively in BIM coordination and technical design meetings with clients, consultants, and project teams.
- Maintain management of model revisions, drawing registers, and BIM documentation throughout project lifecycles.
- Provide technical support to the manufacturing floor by addressing queries and updating relevant drawings.
- Complete all BIM deliverables on schedule, adhering to BIM Execution Plans and organizational standards.
Qualifications and Experience
- Relevant academic background in BIM, Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Construction Technology, or a related field.
- A minimum of three years’ experience in BIM coordination or mechanical services modelling roles.
- Proficiency in Revit, Navisworks, and AutoCAD software applications.
- Prior experience in coordinating mechanical building services, HVAC systems, pipework, or plant-room setups.
- Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, technical schematics, and specifications accurately.
- Strong grasp of BIM coordination principles, clash detection techniques, and model management.
- Experience generating coordinated construction and fabrication-level documentation.
- Exceptional attention to detail paired with robust technical problem-solving capabilities.
- Effective communication skills for engaging with engineers, project collaborators, clients, and manufacturing teams.
- Previous exposure to modular construction, off-site manufacturing, or mechanical plant rooms is an asset.
Compensation and Benefits
The company offers a competitive salary and benefits package alongside the chance to engage with advanced mechanical engineering and off-site manufacturing projects. This position allows for substantial growth in BIM coordination skills, modular construction practices, and fabrication-focused design. Collaborating with an experienced engineering team enhances your technical acumen and supports your career progression within an expanding specialist organization.
