About Wolt and DoorDash Core BI Team

The Core BI team under DoorDash supports business intelligence platforms used by multiple brands including DoorDash, Deliveroo, and Wolt. This team crafts and maintains services, automation, and integrations that enable various stakeholders like analysts, engineers, and business teams to access reliable and scalable data for decision-making. Emphasizing software engineering and platform management, the team aims to provide a seamless and robust BI experience across the group.
Role Overview
As a BI Engineer on the Core BI team, you will design, build, and maintain models, platforms, and automation processes that underpin BI services. Your responsibilities will cover supporting the current BI tools (primarily Looker and Sigma), and helping to unify and advance the BI platform across multiple brands including DoorDash and Deliveroo. The role requires end-to-end ownership from conceptualization through deployment to operational support, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to create sustainable self-service capabilities that meet recurring user needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and enhance the semantic layer of BI platforms, including LookML and Canvas models, governance of metric and dimension definitions to ensure data trustworthiness.
- Configure and maintain Looker and Sigma BI platforms, including instance settings, user access control, content lifecycle management, and API-based automation.
- Drive development of self-service tools to reduce manual BI platform maintenance, leveraging usage analytics to prioritize automation and feature improvements.
- Lead efforts on BI platform migration and deprecation activities while maintaining data integrity, business continuity, and access governance across multiple brands.
- Participate in operational support tasks including debugging, incident response, and remediation of root causes within the BI technology stack.
- Advocate for engineering best practices within BI, such as version control, code review, continuous integration, and automated testing to ensure safe and reliable deployment of platform changes.
Required Qualifications
- At least three years' experience in roles focused on business intelligence engineering, analytics engineering, data engineering or other code-driven data positions.
- Proficient in Python and SQL, with practical experience leveraging AI technologies (including large language models, agentic workflows, AI-assisted development) to expedite engineering tasks.
- Hands-on experience developing with BI platforms such as Looker (specifically LookML) or Sigma, including modeling and configuration beyond dashboard creation.
- Expertise in semantic or metrics layers like LookML or dbt to define and maintain consistent metric and dimension definitions.
- Experience managing production deployments including version control, peer code review, continuous integration, troubleshooting live system issues, and contributing to operational support.
- Strong communication skills and comfort working in a fast-paced, distributed environment engaging technical and non-technical collaborators.
Desirable Skills
- Familiarity with modern data warehousing technologies such as Snowflake, Databricks, or Redshift, with the ability to enhance performance.
- Experience in automating BI platform administration using APIs and managing identity/access via tools like Okta, SCIM, or role-based access controls.
- Previous involvement in managing BI platforms across multiple organizations, regions, or tenants and leading platform migrations.
