Position Overview
We seek an experienced, hands-on Backend Team Lead who is passionate about technical quality and leadership. This role involves owning the technical direction for product domains by driving architecture, design, and coding standards, mentoring engineers, and promoting continuous innovation and improvement. Additionally, as the Site Lead in Galway, Ireland, you will be the onsite representative responsible for all Zerto employees, shaping site culture, facilitating cross-functional collaboration, and ensuring an engaged and productive environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the technical quality, architecture, and roadmap for assigned backend domains.
- Promote the practical adoption of AI tools in daily engineering activities to enhance productivity, code quality, and continuous learning.
- Drive engineering excellence through design and code reviews, as well as technical mentoring.
- Participate in architectural discussions and alignment across domains.
- Address technical challenges including performance optimization, fault tolerance, and resolving live production issues.
- Plan and ensure timely delivery of features aligned with organizational roadmaps, working closely with Product Leads on prioritization.
- Identify process and cost improvements to achieve operational excellence.
- Manage stakeholder relationships, clarifying deliverables, quality standards, schedules, and budgets.
- Provide ongoing leadership to a team of engineers, including hiring, onboarding, setting performance goals, coaching, and career development.
- Build and nurture a high-performing engineering team delivering superior results.
- Serve as the on-site leader for all Zerto personnel in Galway, representing the company locally and fostering an inclusive and collaborative site culture.
- Coordinate with HR, IT, Facilities, and management to ensure smooth operations at the site.
- Support employee onboarding, engagement, and community-building as the site expands.
- Align site initiatives with global company values and goals, championing events and communications that enhance employee connection and teamwork.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related disciplines.
- At least 10 years of extensive C# development experience focusing on complex, multi-threaded, and high-performance applications.
- Strong familiarity with Linux and virtualization platforms such as VMware, Hyper-V, and OpenShift.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience leveraging generative AI tools to optimize software development workflows and foster continuous learning.
- Profound knowledge in software system design, development methodologies, and cross-platform integration.
- Track record of successfully leading large-scale features from concept through production.
- Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, adept at negotiation, presentation, and influencing across teams.
- Proven leadership abilities including coaching, conflict resolution, and team building.
- Advanced expertise in project management encompassing time and risk management, resource prioritization, and structuring projects.
- Innovative problem-solving capabilities and a history of leading site or on-site teams to build a collaborative culture.
- Minimum 4 years of people management experience within the 10-year professional timeline.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Kubernetes and container orchestration.
- Knowledge of storage and networking technologies.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies, particularly Scrum.
- Previous involvement in establishing or scaling new teams, groups, or sites.
