Position Overview

We are seeking a Backend Software Engineer skilled in Java to join a rapidly evolving FinTech company based in Newcastle upon Tyne. This is a senior hands-on role focusing on transforming a complex legacy C++ trading platform into a modern Java-based system. The role demands collaboration with front office trading units as well as integration with advanced software and product development teams to deliver high-performance, secure, real-time trading applications utilizing Java and Claude technology.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain backend Java applications with a focus on multithreading and performance.
• Collaborate closely with trading teams and software engineers to redefine trading system architecture.
• Implement robust, low-latency real-time trading systems.
• Utilize AI tools such as Claude to enhance development workflows.

Candidate Profile

• Proven experience in backend multithreaded Java development especially within the financial markets or trading systems domain.
• Strong understanding of financial markets and previous exposure to trading system development.
• Familiarity with real-time systems and latency optimization.
• Ability to effectively use AI-assisted tools like Claude in software development.
• Excellent interpersonal, client-facing, and communication skills reflecting a pragmatic and cooperative approach.
• Strong analytical skills with a natural curiosity and advanced problem-solving ability.
• Some knowledge of C++ is advantageous but not required.
• Minimum academic credentials include a 2.1 BSc in Computer Science or related technical field from a top-tier Russell Group university and top A-level results.

Location and Working Hours
