Organizational Structure

• Secure Frameworks: Responsible for creating security guarantees against common threats through maintaining application-layer security frameworks, cryptographic libraries, and protection measures, now including AI agent safeguards. This is an active engineering team focused on building security tools rather than security reviews.
• Core Infrastructure: Owners of critical Stripe infrastructure components such as Compute, Networking, DocumentDB, Distributed Caching, and high assurance engineering, ensuring reliability, efficiency, availability, and scalability.
• Developer Infrastructure: Dedicated to maximizing engineer productivity through reliable and efficient development tools ranging from low-latency microservices to large-scale data pipelines and machine learning models.
• Reliability Insights and Excellence: Develops introspection tools and frameworks aimed at enhancing system reliability across Stripe.
• Application and Revenue Platform: Constructs scalable infrastructure to support Stripe’s global transaction processing and innovative applications.
• Finance Systems: Enables efficient financial decision-making by providing reliable data, automation, and process improvements to support Accounting, Tax, Finance & Strategy, Finance Operations, and Treasury teams.
• Service Platform: Facilitates engineering teams in building and deploying services that effectively utilize platform capabilities in a reliable and efficient manner.

Role Overview

As a Backend Engineer within core technology, you will design, develop, test, and deploy software solutions that influence thousands of employees and millions of Stripe users including developers and partners. The role involves working collaboratively across technologies, systems, and processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Create outstanding user experiences for both internal and external users by building on Stripe’s infrastructure.
• Engage in roadmap planning and prioritize tasks accordingly.
• Collaborate intensively with multiple internal customers and stakeholders to deliver valuable outcomes.
• Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues across various systems and layers of the stack.

Minimum Qualifications

• Over 6 years of professional software engineering experience (excluding internships and co-op programs).
• Proficiency in crafting well-structured algorithms and employing standard data structures and algorithms.
• Practical experience with large-scale distributed system development or contributions.
• Strong coding abilities in any programming language; the hiring process is language agnostic as new languages can be learned on the job.
• Excellent collaborative mindset, able to contribute effectively within teams and support peers' success.
• Capable of working autonomously with a self-driven and entrepreneurial approach.
• Eager to function as a versatile engineer, solving challenges across diverse technologies and stacks to exceed both internal and external user expectations.

Work Environment

Employees assigned to the Dublin office are expected to work 100% onsite. In general, most locations anticipate their staff spending at least 50% of their time onsite or collaborating with users monthly, though this may vary by role, team, and location. Certain teams may require higher onsite presence to support workflows and users more effectively.

Compensation and Benefits

The annual salary for this role in Dublin ranges between €106,400 and €159,600, which may differ for other locations. This salary range encompasses multiple experience levels and is refined based on individual factors during the interview process. Additional compensation may include equity, bonuses or commissions, retirement plans, health benefits, and wellness stipends.
