Automation Engineer

Role Overview

The Automation Engineer is responsible for overseeing the quality and performance efficiency of specific product lines. This role supports continuous improvement initiatives by focusing on process enhancement, analyzing root causes of issues, and applying systematic problem-solving methods.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist in the design, final approval, installation, and validation of automated production lines.
• Conduct process characterization and optimization using tools such as DFMEA, PFMEA, and DOE.
• Lead thorough technical root cause investigations to resolve issues.
• Support the ramp-up phase of production lines to achieve stable, mature output levels.
• Develop and implement production and processing methods to uphold quality standards efficiently, with an emphasis on additive manufacturing processes.
• Monitor additive manufacturing operations, troubleshoot process challenges, and contribute to solving quality-related problems.
• Serve as the technical expert on various projects and production jobs as needed.
• Drive initiatives aimed at continuous improvement across manufacturing processes.
• Manage budgets for assigned projects and coordinate with customers and contractors as appropriate.
• Provide technical training support for team members.
• Engage actively in all company safety and quality programs and initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in operational procedures and documentation.
• Adhere to and apply all learnings from GMP training sessions.
• Fulfill any additional responsibilities assigned according to company and departmental evolution.

Candidate Qualifications

• At least an honours degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a related field.
• Between 3 to 6 years of relevant experience in manufacturing environments; experience with high-volume automated assembly and medical device manufacturing is advantageous.
• Willingness to travel as necessary to support equipment buy-offs and conduct training at vendor or customer locations.

• Excellent communication, computer literacy, and presentation abilities.
• Proficient in systematic troubleshooting and leading technical issue resolution.
• Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma methodology is a plus.
• Creative problem-solver delivering innovative solutions to complicated challenges.
• Strong aptitude for data analysis.
• Competent with MS Office applications and MS Project; experience with CAD tools is also desirable.
