About the Role

The School of Nursing at Massey University - Te Kunenga ki Pūrehuroa invites applications for an Associate Professor position based at its Wellington campus. This leadership role demands a dynamic and purposeful individual capable of guiding the nursing faculty with visible presence and commitment. The post plays a pivotal role in managing and delivering the pre-registration nursing programmes, with an emphasis on the Bachelor of Nursing. Key responsibilities include teaching professional and clinical practice courses, both face-to-face and via distance learning, while maintaining strong links with the healthcare sector.

Wellington hosts the university's largest undergraduate nursing cohort, so the appointee must provide strong clinical leadership and cultivate vital clinical placement partnerships amidst a competitive landscape. The Associate Professor will also nurture collaborations with healthcare providers, promote nursing and health research, and contribute to enhancing nursing education and practice quality.

Key Responsibilities

• Exert visible and energetic leadership to strengthen the Nursing School team, driving all activities with clear purpose.
• Lead and contribute to the delivery of high-quality nursing education across on-campus and distance programmes.
• Offer senior clinical oversight and leadership in domains including primary and community healthcare, mental health, medical and surgical nursing, with responsibility for professional practice education.
• Develop and maintain effective partnerships with healthcare organizations and stakeholders to enhance clinical placement opportunities and health sector engagement.
• Champion nursing and health research initiatives, mentor junior academics, and secure research funding aligned with the School’s strategic direction.

Candidate Profile

• Registered Nurse holding a current Annual Practicing Certificate (APC).
• PhD or equivalent qualification in nursing or a related discipline.
• Proven clinical experience and cultural competency within nursing and educational settings.
• Experience leading curriculum development for nursing programmes that achieve positive outcomes, particularly for equity groups.
• Skilled in blended learning methodologies including online educational technologies.
• Exceptional communication skills within interdisciplinary teams.
• Proven ability to engage and build relationships with nurse leaders, Iwi partners, Pacific providers, and other external stakeholders.
• In-depth knowledge of Te Ao Māori, mātauranga Māori, tikanga, and cultural safety, with expertise in curriculum development in these areas.
• Capacity to lead and participate in research projects employing diverse methodologies.
• Experience supervising doctoral candidates, particularly with mixed and indigenous research methods.
• Record of academic publications in international nursing or health journals.
• Governance experience in health-related committees or organizations.

Additional Information

The position commences in January 2027 and is a permanent full-time role based at the Wellington campus. The salary range for this role is from NZD 142,607 to 166,584, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Compliance with the Vulnerable Children Act 2014 and related safety check regulations is mandatory due to the nature of work involving individuals across the lifespan.
