Role Overview

In line with our expansion in the Three Waters sector, we are seeking seasoned engineers specializing in stormwater design and implementation. These newly created positions, suitable for appointment as Associate Engineer or Senior Principal / Technical Director, involve working on impactful water infrastructure projects for public and private clients. Locations include Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga, and Christchurch.

Associate Engineer Responsibilities

  • Lead technical aspects within stormwater management, water-sensitive design, hydraulic modelling, and flood and network projects.
  • Manage projects comprehensively from investigation and modelling stages through detailed design to construction support.
  • Support project delivery by providing technical input that aligns with scope, schedules, and quality standards.
  • Develop strong client relationships and contribute to business growth initiatives.
  • Coach and mentor fellow engineers fostering a collaborative knowledge-sharing environment.

Senior Principal / Technical Director Responsibilities

  • Steer technical leadership and oversight over multiple complex stormwater and Three Waters projects.
  • Serve as a trusted technical advisor to clients and internal teams, nurturing long-term partnerships.
  • Lead reviews of technical deliverables including designs, reports, and modelling to ensure excellence and consistency.
  • Provide technical assurance by critically assessing key project outputs.
  • Shape and enhance technical standards, methodologies, and foster innovation within the team.
  • Drive business development efforts, client engagement strategies, and market expansion.
  • Monitor project performance to ensure alignment with scope, timelines, and commercial goals.
  • Mentor and support the growth of engineering staff, building a high-performing team culture.
  • Collaborate cross-disciplinarily to deliver integrated project outcomes.

Candidate Profile

  • Possession of a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in stormwater and water infrastructure projects.
  • Associate level typically requires over 10 years’ experience; Senior Principal / Technical Director level typically 15 to 20+ years.
  • Expertise in water sensitive design, stormwater management planning, catchment planning, and three waters infrastructure.
  • Strong skills in hydrologic and hydraulic modelling and the design of piping, surface networks, or flood control systems.
  • Proficiency with tools such as InfoWorks ICM, MIKE DHI, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, TUFLOW, and/or GIS platforms.
  • Proven capability to establish and maintain senior-level client trust and relationships.
  • CPEng qualification is advantageous; candidates may also be progressing toward chartered status.
