Associate Engineer / Senior Principal Technical Director - Stormwater

About the Roles

We are expanding our Three Waters team and seek skilled engineers focused on stormwater design and project execution. These freshly established positions, available at Associate or Senior Principal / Technical Director levels, involve working on significant water infrastructure projects for public and private clients across Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga, or Christchurch. You will contribute to enhancing our comprehensive Three Waters expertise.

Associate Engineer Responsibilities

• Lead technical aspects of stormwater management, water-sensitive design, hydraulic modelling, and flood and network projects.
• Manage projects throughout all phases, including investigation, modelling, detailed design, and construction support.
• Provide technical insights across initiatives while ensuring projects meet scope, timeline, and quality standards.
• Develop strong client partnerships and identify business development prospects.
• Coach and mentor engineers within a collaborative and knowledge-sharing setting.

Senior Principal / Technical Director Responsibilities

• Oversee multiple complex stormwater and Three Waters projects, providing technical leadership and direction.
• Serve as a trusted advisor for clients and internal teams, fostering long-term relationships.
• Lead the review of technical outputs like designs, reports, and models to maintain high quality and uniformity.
• Ensure technical assurance by reviewing critical project deliverables.
• Influence development of technical standards, methodologies, and innovation within the group.
• Take ownership of business development, client strategy, and expanding market opportunities.
• Monitor project delivery to align with scope, schedule, and budgetary expectations.
• Mentor engineers, fostering a connected, high-performance team.
• Collaborate across disciplines to promote integrated project delivery.

Candidate Profile

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Extensive background in stormwater and water infrastructure projects.
• Associate level: generally 10+ years of relevant experience; Senior Principal/Technical Director: around 15-20+ years.
• Proficient in water sensitive design, stormwater planning, catchment planning, and Three Waters infrastructure.
• Solid expertise in hydrologic and hydraulic modelling, design of pipe and surface networks, and flood control systems.
• Experience with tools such as InfoWorks ICM, MIKE DHI, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, TUFLOW, and GIS.
• Ability to cultivate strong, trusted client relationships, especially at senior levels.
• Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status is preferred or progress towards chartership is encouraged.
