Assistant Underwriter

Job Overview

Suncorp New Zealand is seeking a commercially astute Assistant Underwriter to join its Business Distribution team based in Christchurch. This role focuses on supporting both new and existing SME commercial insurance business, with a strong emphasis on relationship building and delivering excellent experiences to intermediaries and customers. Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate underwriting opportunities in the SME commercial insurance sector to promote sustainable and profitable growth.
• Review existing SME commercial insurance policies and assist in renewal processes.
• Prepare quotes and help secure new commercial business opportunities within the SME market.
• Develop and maintain effective partnerships with intermediaries and business partners.
• Ensure seamless, efficient service delivery for commercial clients and intermediaries, focusing on favorable customer results.
• Collaborate with broader business teams to share expertise and support strong outcomes.
• Contribute to digital transformation efforts, including automation and continuous improvement initiatives.

Candidate Profile

• At least three years of experience in commercial underwriting or the wider commercial insurance sector.
• Good knowledge of the New Zealand commercial insurance market.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and negotiate effectively.
• A customer-centric approach with dedication to quality outcomes.
• Strong commercial awareness and understanding of sales strategies.
• Proven ability to collaborate with multiple teams and stakeholders to achieve shared goals.
• Proactive in problem-solving, innovative thinking, and pursuing continuous improvements.
• Tertiary education or relevant industry qualifications are favourable.
