About the Role
We are looking for an Assistant Gardener to become part of the Hort team responsible for supporting the maintenance of various parks, streets, and gardens throughout Auckland. This position offers on-the-job training to develop and apply horticultural skills in a practical setting alongside experienced team members.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with routine garden care including managing annual and perennial flower beds, mass plantings, and revegetation projects.
- Control pests, weeds, and insects to preserve plant health.
- Perform vegetation management tasks such as pruning, hedge trimming, line trimming, and mulching.
Candidate Profile
- Genuine enthusiasm for outdoor work and maintaining green spaces.
- Prior horticulture experience is beneficial but not mandatory.
- Demonstrates pride in maintaining the cleanliness and appearance of Auckland's public areas.
- Possession of a clean full or restricted New Zealand Class 1 driver's license with competency in driving manual vehicles is essential.
- Able to follow instructions, willing to learn, and receptive to guidance on-site.
- Motivated to develop a professional career in horticulture with ongoing learning.
