Area Head - Maersk Contract Logistics

Overview

The Area Head for Maersk Contract Logistics (MCL) in Eastern Africa will lead all delivery operations within the area, overseeing warehouses, depots, and transportation.

Key Duties

• Direct the area’s delivery teams encompassing warehouse, depot, middle and last-mile transport.
• Monitor and manage financial reporting and the contract logistics’ fiscal outcomes across Eastern Africa.
• Utilize extensive local market knowledge and networks within the Eastern Africa region.
• Ensure appropriate talent acquisition and development to meet business demands and future growth.
• Collaborate with Technology and Solution Development teams to implement advanced integrated systems.
• Enhance employee engagement, manage talent succession, and strengthen company culture.
• Promote a safe, compliant workplace adhering to health, safety, ISO, and legal standards, with prompt corrective actions as necessary.
• Drive operational excellence by managing quality, timing, and costs according to Maersk delivery standards and customer agreements.
• Maintain rigorous budgeting and prudent cost control to ensure economic efficiency.
• Implement continuous improvement methods to streamline processes and align with global best practices.
• Optimize transport networks for efficient middle and last-mile operations.
• Oversee customer site implementations ensuring timely and quality delivery as per contracts.
• Manage outsourced operations, ensuring they meet compliance and service level agreements.
• Lead budget monitoring, cost control, and take timely action to achieve financial goals.

Candidate Profile

• At least ten years of experience in contract logistics including warehousing and distribution.
• Strong expertise in delivery execution with preference given to candidates experienced in e-Commerce fulfillment environments.
• Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Economics, Supply Chain Management, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
• Proven leadership experience in operations or delivery environments.
• Strategic thinker capable of navigating complex matrixed organizations.
• Customer-focused with agility in responding to service needs.
• In-depth understanding of global logistics trends and benchmarking practices both local and international.
• Proficient in supply chain technologies including WMS, TMS, DPR, MRP, and order management systems.
• Experienced with managing complex, multi-system integrated supply chains.
• Strong insight into the interplay of people, processes, and technology for supply chain optimization.
