About the Role
Join Blacktown City Council as a qualified Arborist responsible for enhancing and preserving the safety, health, and beauty of the city's parks, streets, and open spaces. This role involves practical outdoor work such as tree maintenance, climbing, rigging, and planting, contributing to a greener, more liveable community while mentoring apprentices in arboriculture skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Climb and prune trees ensuring health and safety standards.
- Conduct rigging operations and tree removals as needed.
- Operate equipment including chippers, stump grinders, elevated work platforms, and aerial rope systems.
- Inspect trees for defects and maintenance needs.
- Maintain and care for tools and machinery.
- Assist with tree planting and establishment across parks and streets.
- Collaborate effectively within a team dedicated to high-quality workmanship.
Requirements and Skills
- Qualified climbing arborist with demonstrated experience in tree maintenance and rigging.
- Strong practical skills in aerial tree work using ropes, harnesses, and elevated platforms.
- Ability to mentor vocational apprentices in arboriculture.
- Commitment to workplace safety protocols, including adherence to pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing.
- Enjoyment of outdoor, physically active work that contributes positively to community spaces.
