About the Role

Join the Amazon Robotics team as an Applied Scientist, where you will leverage cutting-edge research to tackle practical challenges in robotics and artificial intelligence. This role involves collaborating with scientists and engineers in designing, building, and delivering complete robotic systems, as well as creating foundational infrastructure and tools that support interdisciplinary teams across machine learning, hardware, and software engineering for deployment in the field.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate, design, develop, and assess advanced algorithms in perception, motion planning, and decision-making, combining multiple disciplines and machine learning techniques.
  • Develop experiments and prototypes implementing novel machine learning and prediction algorithms.
  • Partner with software engineers to implement scalable, real-time solutions.
  • Work jointly with machine learning specialists and robotic controls professionals to operationalize and deploy models and algorithms.
  • Collaborate closely with hardware engineers throughout the process from prototype development to production deployment.
  • Represent the organization in academic forums through publications and scientific talks.
  • Engage with stakeholders across hardware, scientific research, and operational teams to refine systems design and execution.

About the Team

The Vulcan Pick team at Amazon Robotics focuses on innovative robotic systems for object picking applications.

Qualifications

  • PhD or a Master's degree with relevant experience in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Machine Learning, or related disciplines.
  • Proven experience developing models applicable to business environments.
  • Record of patents or publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals or conferences.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, C++, or Python.
  • Expertise in areas including algorithms, data structures, parsing, numerical optimization, data mining, parallel and distributed computing, or high-performance computing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Unix/Linux operating systems.
  • Experience in professional software development environments.
