API Integration Specialist | Integration Architect

Overview

We are looking for an experienced API Integration Specialist / Integration Architect to architect, develop, and oversee scalable integration solutions that link applications, platforms, and enterprise systems. This role collaborates with software engineering, cloud, data, security, and business teams to build robust APIs and integration frameworks that support seamless data exchange and streamline operational workflows.

Key Duties

• Design and implement scalable API and enterprise integration frameworks.
• Develop, configure, and sustain RESTful APIs, SOAP services, and related integration interfaces.
• Architect integration solutions connecting internal applications with third-party platforms, SaaS offerings, databases, and cloud environments.
• Analyze both business and technical requirements to select suitable integration strategies.
• Create API specifications, workflow designs, interface definitions, and comprehensive technical documentation.
• Define and enforce API design standards, naming conventions, integration patterns, and development best practices.
• Develop secure, reliable data-exchange mechanisms among systems and applications.
• Integrate systems such as CRM, ERP, payment gateways, e-commerce, analytics, identity management, and other enterprise platforms.
• Build middleware and integration services utilizing enterprise integration technologies.
• Work with event-driven architectures, message queues, asynchronous workflows, and real-time data integrations where necessary.
• Implement authentication and authorization methods including OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, API keys, and JWT.
• Apply security controls like encryption, access limitations, rate limiting to safeguard APIs and integrations.
• Design API gateways, service interfaces, routing logic, data transformation, and orchestration layers.
• Develop data mapping and transformation logic across varying systems and data formats such as JSON, XML, CSV, and webhooks.
• Troubleshoot API failures, integration errors, data mismatches, performance bottlenecks, and connectivity issues.
• Monitor key metrics such as API uptime, latency, throughput, error rates, and integration performance.
• Establish logging, monitoring, alerting, and observability for integration services.
• Collaborate with developers, solution architects, DevOps, data engineers, and cybersecurity teams.
• Support cloud-based integration efforts across AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, or hybrid infrastructures.
• Participate in application modernization, cloud migration, digital transformation, and system integration initiatives.
• Evaluate third-party API solutions for compatibility, security, scalability, and maintainability.
• Manage API versioning, lifecycle, backward compatibility, and deprecation.
• Implement API governance ensuring adherence to organizational standards.
• Conduct technical reviews and deliver architectural recommendations for complex integration needs.
• Support testing phases including unit, integration, performance, and security testing.
• Develop and automate integration tests and deployment pipelines as appropriate.
• Maintain detailed architecture diagrams, API docs, data mappings, and operational runbooks.
• Perform root-cause analysis for recurring integration issues and implement robust solutions.
• Continuously research new integration technologies, API management tools, and architectural paradigms.

Candidate Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline.
• Proven experience as API Integration Engineer, Solution Architect, or similar integration role.
• Deep knowledge of API design, integration architectures, and distributed systems.
• Hands-on experience developing and integrating RESTful and SOAP APIs.
• Strong familiarity with HTTP, HTTPS, JSON, XML, OAuth, JWT, webhooks, and related protocols.
• Experience with API gateways and management platforms (preferred).
• Knowledge of platforms such as MuleSoft, Boomi, Apigee, Kong, Azure API Management, AWS API Gateway is a plus.
• Proficiency in programming or scripting languages such as Java, C#, Python, JavaScript, or similar.
• Experience working with databases, SQL, and system data transformations.
• Understanding of middleware, message brokers, event-driven and asynchronous integration patterns.
• Familiarity with Kafka, RabbitMQ, Azure Service Bus, Amazon SQS/SNS is beneficial.
• Good grasp of cloud architecture and cloud-based integration technologies.
• Knowledge of microservices, containerization, and distributed app architectures.
• Expertise in API security including identity management, encryption, authentication, and authorization.
• Experience with CI/CD systems, Git, automated testing, and DevOps methodologies.
• Strong troubleshooting and root cause investigation skills.
• Experience with API monitoring, logging, and performance optimization.
• Ability to translate complex business needs into technical integration approaches.
• Excellent written communication, documentation, and stakeholder management prowess.
• Collaborative mindset with strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
• Experience integrating enterprise applications such as ERP, CRM, and payment platforms is an advantage.
• Relevant certifications in cloud, API management, architecture, or integrations are welcomed.
