Analytics & AI Consultant - Data and Integration

About the Role

Join Fusion5 as an Analytics & AI Consultant based in New Zealand, working onsite in Wellington, Auckland, or Christchurch. As part of the Data & Analytics team, you'll be responsible for overseeing the analytics and AI layer used by leading New Zealand organisations. The role involves enabling clients to transform data into actionable insights and practically adopt AI solutions using Microsoft technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement analytics and reporting solutions with robust data modelling, Power BI semantic models, DAX formulas, dashboards, and storytelling using Microsoft Fabric and Azure platforms.
• Assist clients with deploying practical AI tools such as Copilot, Copilot Studio, Fabric Copilot, Data Agents, and Azure AI Foundry, while providing guidance on AI governance and ethical AI use.
• Lead requirements gathering sessions and workshops, acting as the liaison between business stakeholders and technical teams to translate business needs into clear insights and AI solutions.
• Maintain hands-on capabilities across the Microsoft Fabric/Azure data-engineering stack, including familiarity with Databricks or Snowflake to ensure analytics platforms have solid foundational architecture.
• Promote AI adoption internally and externally through solution delivery and client engagement.
• Support pre-sales activities and aid in shaping solutions, contributing to team standards, reusable assets, and the overall knowledge base.

Qualifications and Skills

• Experience delivering analytics, BI reporting, and consulting services in client-facing roles, preferably at Senior Consultant level (strong Consultant candidates considered).
• Proficient in data modelling with expertise in dimensional, semantic layer/tabular models, and strong Power BI skills including semantic modelling, DAX, visualization, and data storytelling.
• Hands-on practical experience with Microsoft AI front-end tools such as Copilot, Copilot Studio, Fabric Copilot, Data Agents, and Azure AI Foundry; exposure to other AI platforms is advantageous.
• Understanding of AI governance frameworks and responsible AI principles.
• Strong consulting skills including functional workshop facilitation, requirements gathering, and stakeholder management with a proactive business-first mindset.
• Solid SQL expertise and practice with Microsoft Fabric semantic layer (DirectLake, Power BI in Fabric).
• Versatile data engineering skills; exposure to Databricks or Snowflake is beneficial.
• Legal eligibility to work in New Zealand and willingness to collaborate with clients nationwide.
• Additional technical proficiencies or certifications advantageous include broader Fabric/Azure engineering, dbt, Copilot Studio agent building, responsible AI and data governance tools such as Microsoft Purview, Python, and certifications like PL-300, DP-600/700, AI-102, AI-900, and DP-800.
