Analog Mixed-Signal IC Design Engineer

Key Responsibilities

• Architect and design high-speed Successive Approximation Register (SAR) Analog-to-Digital Converters (ADCs) operating above 100MS/s for applications including 5G, radar, and data converters.
• Enhance vital components such as capacitor DAC arrays, comparators with high speed, bootstrapped switches, and digital control circuits.
• Ensure design meets performance goals including Effective Number of Bits (ENOB), Spurious-Free Dynamic Range (SFDR), and efficiency with a figure of merit (FOM) below 10 femtojoules per conversion step.

• Improve performance by addressing nonlinear effects through capacitor matching techniques like common-centroid and dummy units.
• Minimize disturbances such as kickback noise, clock jitter, and comparator metastability.
• Create calibration algorithms, for example, background Least Mean Square (LMS) methods to correct capacitor mismatches.

• Utilize advanced semiconductor processes such as FinFET 7nm, 5nm, and 28nm CMOS for design implementation.
• Model parasitic effects, device mismatches, and variations from process, voltage, and temperature changes.
• Collaborate with layout teams for matched routing, shielding strategies, and ensure electromagnetic/IR reliability.

• Design and execute test plans for laboratory characterization using tools like high-speed oscilloscopes and Bit Error Rate Testers (BERTs).
• Carry out post-silicon validation tests including Integral Nonlinearity (INL)/Differential Nonlinearity (DNL), dynamic performance analysis, and jitter tolerance assessments.
• Support Automated Test Equipment (ATE) development for manufacturing production testing.

• Engage with system engineers for ADC integration within RF transceivers or System-on-Chips (SoCs).
• Prepare detailed documentation covering design specifications, simulation outcomes, and silicon test results.

Required Qualifications

• Possess over eight years of relevant experience in semiconductor industry roles focused on similar technologies.
• Skilled in Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools including Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre, HSPICE, and expertise with MATLAB or Python for modeling purposes.
• In-depth understanding of ADC principles such as sampling theory, quantization noise, and managing metastability.
• Experience addressing high-speed design issues like clock distribution, comparator offset cancellation, and charge injection mitigation.
• Knowledge in mixed-signal verification methodologies including AMS and Verilog-A modeling.

• Preferably experienced with tape-out projects involving SAR ADCs exceeding 500MS/s with resolutions between 8 to 12 bits.
• Familiar with hybrid ADC architectures like SAR-assisted pipelined or time-interleaved SAR designs.
• Proficient in scripting for automation tasks using languages like Python and Tcl.
