Job description

About the Role

Brightecs Innovation Pte Ltd is seeking a Principal Memory Architect to lead the design and optimization of 3D-NAND memory architecture. Located in Singapore, this role involves defining array organization, management logic, ECC strategies, algorithm optimization, and collaborating across multiple teams to support cutting-edge semiconductor IP development. The company focuses on silicon IP for intelligent computing and offers opportunities to work in a dynamic startup environment with growth potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish the comprehensive 3D-NAND memory architecture including array layout with plane, bank, page, and block configurations, and shared resource planning.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, evaluate technical risks, and plan roadmaps emphasizing IP reuse, scalability, and technological node advancement.
  • Develop and fine-tune program, erase, and read algorithms balancing speed, endurance, retention, and disturbance management.
  • Create ECC strategies incorporating BCH, LDPC, and other approaches, assessing their effects on die area, latency, power consumption, and error mitigation capabilities.
  • Design page and block management logic supporting advanced features like copy-back, multi-plane functionality, suspend/resume operations, and background erase processes.
  • Optimize the trade-offs involving throughput, latency, die size, power consumption, and reliability to align with product segments such as consumer, enterprise, or automotive-grade solutions.
  • Work in tandem with device and process teams to tailor circuit and algorithm implementations based on actual 3D stacked structures like charge trapping, vertical channels, and word line layers.
  • Select and customize ONFI/Toggle Mode interface protocols, specifying register maps, command extensions, and low-power configurations.
  • Lead technical reviews across teams and define architectural design and verification standards.
  • Support post-silicon validation, yield enhancement, and customer issue resolution through iterative architecture refinements.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Master's degree or higher (PhD preferred) in Microelectronics, Integrated Circuits, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related disciplines.
  • More than 8 years of experience in flash memory development, including at least 5 years in architecture leadership or critical technology roles.
  • Advanced expertise in 3D-NAND physical structures with deep understanding of charge trapping or floating gate technologies, vertical channels, word line stacking, and signal crosstalk.
  • Familiarity with multi-bit memory types such as TLC, QLC, and PLC, and related challenges in algorithms, ECC, and wear leveling.
  • Knowledgeable about interface standards like ONFI 4.x and Toggle 3.0.
  • Strong systemic thinking and ability to coordinate multi-disciplinary teams including circuit, device, firmware, and testing.
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills for documentation and decision-making.
  • Up-to-date awareness of emerging technologies such as HBM-NAND hybrid storage and in-memory computing architectures, driving innovation and patent efforts.
  • Experienced in delivering complete NAND architecture for mass production, preferably with 64-layer or higher 3D-NAND products.
  • Preferred understanding of ECC architectures (BCH/LDPC) and NAND controller integrations.
  • Familiar with reliability modeling (including TDDB, HCI, RTN) under advanced process technologies.
  • Publication record in notable NAND and semiconductor conferences is a plus.
