Job description

About the Role

This role is part of AI Singapore (AISG), a national initiative led by the National Research Foundation to build advanced AI capabilities by uniting research institutions with AI enterprises. The position is based at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) within the Vice President's office for Artificial Intelligence & Digital Economy, offering an opportunity to engage in cutting-edge AI research with a focus on safety and alignment of large language models (LLMs).

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate on designing and implementing safety and alignment methods tailored for LLMs in healthcare contexts.
  • Develop guardrails and safeguard models to ensure the robustness of AI systems.
  • Analyze failure patterns particularly related to Southeast Asian languages and cultures to improve model reliability.
  • Contribute to expanding regional language capabilities for applications under the SEA-LION initiative.
  • Identify culturally specific safety vulnerabilities and ensure safety frameworks extend beyond English and accommodate code-mixed Southeast Asian texts.
  • Design leaderboards and visualization tools to facilitate transparent and auditable evaluation of AI systems.
  • Co-author high-impact academic publications in leading AI and NLP conferences such as ACL, EMNLP, NeurIPS, and ICLR documenting novel and reproducible findings.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Computational Linguistics, Computer Science, or equivalent practical expertise.
  • Demonstrated experience in safety alignment of LLMs, including model evaluation for safety or robustness, supported by a record of publications in this research area.
  • Proficiency in Python programming and understanding of natural language processing principles.
  • Hands-on experience with LLM inference frameworks such as Ollama or vLLM.
  • Familiarity with Generative AI models including Llama, Gemma, Qwen, and skills in designing performance leaderboards and visual analytics.
  • Effective communication abilities suitable for a collaborative research environment.
