This opportunity is offered on behalf of a partner organization seeking an AI Harness Engineer based in Australia. The role involves constructing systems and integrations to connect users with advanced local AI functionalities. As part of the position, you will operate at the convergence of AI tooling, agent infrastructure, and peer-to-peer technology to design scalable AI assistant experiences. Your contributions will include creating versatile tools and modules compatible with various AI models, developing dependable systems capable of managing non-deterministic environments, and advancing peer-to-peer technologies that facilitate scalable local AI applications. This role features a blend of in-depth software engineering, experimentation, and swift technical exploration within a remote, globally dispersed team valuing autonomy, curiosity, and innovation.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver new features and resolve bugs with emphasis on robustness, performance, and user satisfaction.
• Design and implement reusable tools, modules, and integrations to enhance AI capabilities across multiple model types and scales.
• Develop and sustain AI agent harnesses including tool invocation, agent loops, context handling, and structured data outputs.
• Create frameworks and testing infrastructure to evaluate AI systems exhibiting non-deterministic behavior.
• Implement and improve peer-to-peer technologies supporting local AI and distributed deployment scenarios.
• Maintain code quality through consistent standards, code reviews, modular designs, and automated testing.
• Engineer systems resilient to failures such as network disruptions, model faults, timeouts, and retries.
• Develop and upkeep reusable npm packages and shared software components.
• Engage in experimentation with cutting-edge technologies and methodologies to broaden the scope of AI and peer-to-peer functionalities.
• Collaborate effectively within a distributed engineering team, ensuring clear technical communication.

Experience and Qualifications

• Minimum of five years in developing and maintaining production-level software.
• Advanced skills in JavaScript and TypeScript, with experience managing complex state across synchronization protocols or similar agent systems.
• Proven ability to write modular, maintainable, and reusable codebases.
• Hands-on experience with AI agent harness construction including tool calling, context and agent loop management, and structured output generation.
• Experience with evaluation frameworks and testing systems for non-deterministic AI or comparably complex environments.
• Proficient in creating and managing reusable npm modules.
• Strong aptitude for testing, debugging, and ensuring production reliability.
• Comprehensive understanding and practical expertise with AI tooling.
• Interest or professional background in peer-to-peer networking or distributed systems.
• Capacity to design systems capable of handling various failure scenarios such as network outages and model-related errors.
• Contributions to open-source projects related to P2P, networking, or AI tooling are a plus.
• Excellent communication skills suited to remote, multicultural team collaborations.
• A proactive, experimental approach with eagerness to test ideas and engage with emerging technologies to solve complex technical challenges.
