Your Contribution
- Conduct onsite inspections, safety audits, investigate incidents, and identify workplace hazards to guide leadership decision-making.
- Assist operational and functional teams in recognizing and mitigating safety risks aiming to eliminate injuries, illnesses, and fatalities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead health, safety, and wellbeing initiatives at the departmental level to realize Newmont’s "Always Safe" strategy.
- Oversee inspections and audits at mining facilities such as crushing units, mills, tailings storage, and workshops to detect hazards and ensure adherence to safety standards.
- Provide practical safety coaching and training to onsite personnel on correct safety procedures, equipment use, risk assessments, incident reporting, and investigative techniques.
- Implement safety protocols tailored to site conditions, ensuring staff compliance with safety guidelines.
- Collaborate in developing and executing safety programs addressing fatality management, incident management, injury reduction, and health promotion.
- Support the creation and execution of site-specific Health & Safety plans.
- Encourage frontline leaders to promote safe work practices and engage employees in continuous safety improvements.
- Coordinate Occupational Health & Safety representative programs.
- Apply safety management systems, including change management processes.
- Support Level of Defense 1 assurance programs for health and safety standards and procedures.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Health and Safety or Engineering.
- NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.
- Health Safety and Environmental Officer’s Certificate of Competency from Ghana’s Minerals Commission.
- Class B driver’s license issued in Ghana.
- At least 3 to 5 years of professional health and safety experience.
Knowledge and Technical Expertise
- Comprehensive understanding of local health and safety legislation.
- Proficient knowledge of safety management systems and risk and loss prevention methodologies.
- Awareness of compliance regulations and effective communication and influencing skills.
- Expertise in health and safety investigations, risk assessments, and change management fundamentals.
- Competent in implementing safety standards, monitoring processes, and ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Basic project management skills and ability to analyze data to assess performance.
- Foundational commercial abilities including forecasting, planning, analysis, reporting, and communication.
Behavioral and Social Competencies
- Self-awareness of personal behavior and its impact on colleagues.
- Ability to adjust behavior to achieve productive team outcomes.
- Effective team working through active listening, clear communication, and constructive feedback.
- Leadership skills to foster positive and productive work environments.

Work Location and Environment
This position is based onsite at Newmont’s Ahafo South mine site, specifically at Apensu Underground. Newmont is dedicated to a safe, inclusive, and supportive workplace culture where employees contribute meaningfully to the mining industry’s future.
