Job Summary

The role involves receiving merchandise from outside vendors, ensuring accurate check-in, maintaining inventory, and securing merchandise while preventing shrinkage.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage receipt of direct store delivery products like soda, chips, and alcohol by verifying invoices, resolving discrepancies, and checking for damage.
  • Protect company assets by securing back doors and monitoring vendor activities.
  • Minimize product shrinkage by ensuring appropriate credits for damaged or returned items.
  • Unload products, verify inventory accuracy on trucks, and review ordering paperwork.
  • Advise vendors on stocking accuracy and cleanliness of shelves and backroom areas.
  • Communicate product or vendor issues to department managers.
  • Monitor inventory levels and report inconsistencies in supply and demand.
  • Assist with the Inventory Management System (IMS) by conducting counts, adjustments, and potentially reviewing orders.
  • Support preparation for inventory service counts.
  • Maintain grocery backroom in compliance with 5S organizational standards.
  • Deliver courteous customer service by greeting customers, answering queries, and addressing complaints.
  • Ensure adherence to company safety protocols, maintaining clean, safe, and sanitary work and shopping environments.

Skills and Abilities

  • Operate pallet jack safely and efficiently.
  • Read and use digital equipment related to inventory management.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records for documentation purposes.
  • Exercise discretion and initiative when determining actions independently or directing others.
  • Make informed decisions under both deliberative and time-pressured conditions.
  • Communicate effectively in writing and verbally with vendors, colleagues, and customers.
  • Interpret written and numerical data accurately.
  • Collaborate well within a team environment to promote cohesion.
  • Adapt to flexible work schedules including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Identify hazards promptly and implement appropriate safety warnings or report unresolved risks to supervisors.

Education and Qualifications

  • At least 18 years old; minimum 21 to drive on company business.
  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • DSD Receiving certification completed through the company’s LEARN program.
  • Primarily on-the-job training is provided.

Physical Demands

  • Regular use of close and distance vision, as well as depth perception.
  • Majority of time spent standing or walking.
  • Frequent talking, hearing, reaching, touching, and handling items.
  • Frequent fine motor activities such as sorting and typing.
  • Occasional lifting or moving objects up to 40 lbs.
  • Occasional bending, kneeling, or squatting.
  • Consistent attendance at work is required.

Work Environment

  • Performed primarily in a retail store setting.
  • Occasional exposure to wet or slippery surfaces.
  • Occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
  • Generally quiet to moderate noise levels.
