Job description
About Halter
Halter is devoted to empowering farmers and graziers to maximize productivity and sustainability in their operations. Our customers use Halter's innovative virtual fencing to liberate themselves from traditional, labor-intensive farming methods. Imagine effortlessly guiding 500 cattle calmly to their next grazing area without quad bikes, dogs, or fences—just cattle moving naturally at their own pace. This technology is revolutionizing grazing, improving lives, and transforming farming.
Supported by top-tier investors such as Founders Fund, Bessemer Venture Partners, and Rocket Lab’s Peter Beck, Halter is at the forefront of developing world-class virtual fencing solutions that enhance animal care and farm sustainability worldwide.
Role Overview
We seek a Data Analyst to join our R&D team focused on virtual fencing. This role transcends traditional data analysis by combining domain expertise in virtual fencing, animal behavior, and close collaboration with backend and data engineering teams. Based in Auckland with occasional visits to our Morrinsville research farm, you will contribute to advancing how virtual fencing aids farmers globally.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze and synthesize data related to virtual fencing and animal movement using advanced statistical and data engineering techniques.
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to lead research initiatives and improve virtual fencing solutions.
- Conduct data trials and provide insights into the guidance data domain as part of a focused R&D team.
- Observe cattle behavior firsthand on the farm to deepen your understanding of animal interaction with technology.
- Be an active, problem-solving team member, continuously seeking opportunities for product and process enhancements.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Strong analytical capabilities with scientific rigor, aware of statistical biases and able to identify inconsistencies for root cause analysis.
- Proficiency with data tools such as SQL, Python, and R, with eagerness to expand skills in data engineering and backend technologies.
- Demonstrated experience in data analysis roles or a tertiary qualification in statistics or related disciplines.
- Curiosity about farming practices and motivation to understand the agricultural context deeply.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills, adaptable to different audiences.
- Ability to navigate ambiguity, apply first principles thinking, and drive actionable solutions independently.
- Fast learner willing to acquire comprehensive knowledge about cow behavior and internal systems.
Benefits
- Access to delicious snacks and beverages for daily refreshment.
- Healthcare support through Southern Cross Health Insurance partnership.
- Generous parental leave policies including 6 months paid leave for primary caregivers and 4 weeks for secondary caregivers.
- Annual personal growth allowance of $1,000 to support development activities.
- Wellness leave and unlimited paid annual leave to ensure work-life balance.
- Competitive remuneration package inclusive of salary, benefits, and employee stock options.
Work Culture
Halter emphasizes an office-first environment to foster strong in-person relationships and effective teamwork, although flexible arrangements are available when necessary. Our culture values high performance, trust, and meaningful connections to promote professional growth and collaborative problem solving.
