Role Overview

The Critical Environment Technician (CET) at Microsoft, part of the Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) group, plays a vital role in maintaining the foundational infrastructure supporting global data centers. Responsibilities include monitoring, inspecting, and maintaining critical facility equipment including HVAC and mechanical systems, troubleshooting faults, enforcing safety and security protocols, and developing standard procedures to ensure optimal operations.

Microsoft's CO+I team powers core cloud services like Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and Azure, managing over 200 data centers worldwide with millions of servers to provide service to billions of customers and businesses globally. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine rounds and record observations related to facility conditions and equipment functionality under supervision.
  • Monitor critical systems and facilities for irregularities, ensuring safety and operational standards are continuously met.
  • Operate and learn to handle all relevant equipment and systems safely, understanding associated risks.
  • Use Microsoft’s computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to log assets and complete maintenance work orders.
  • Assist with emergency monitoring and response by following emergency operating procedures under guidance.
  • Perform scheduled, predictive, and corrective maintenance adhering to prescribed methods and procedures.
  • Document maintenance activities and troubleshooting outcomes, escalating issues as needed.
  • Provide escorts for third-party contractors and vendors per procedural requirements.
  • Adhere strictly to safety, security, and regulatory requirements including job hazard assessments, environmental health and safety standards, and company policies.
  • Support and promote Microsoft’s culture and core values in daily work activities.

Qualifications and Eligibility

  • Minimum education: High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Availability to work shifts including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Applicants must be Singaporean citizens or Permanent Residents due to legal and security screening requirements, including valid passport verification.
  • Successful candidates must pass Microsoft Cloud background checks every two years.
  • Preferred qualifications include one year of technical service experience in high-availability or critical infrastructure environments or completion of an associate degree, technical trade certification, or equivalent experience.
