Team Overview

The Notification Platform team designs and operates the core infrastructure that powers internal and customer communications. This centralized engineering group creates a cloud-native, event-driven platform that delivers notifications at scale across multiple channels, ensuring reliable messaging throughout the organization. The system demands expert engineering due to its mission-critical, high I/O nature and supports complex communication requirements company-wide.

Role Responsibilities

• Architect, build, and sustain a resilient notification system with high throughput and low latency for SMS, email, and push notifications reaching clients globally.
• Implement and uphold robust event-driven architectural principles emphasizing scalability, traceability, and automation.
• Identify and implement new communication channels like WhatsApp and inbox notifications to enhance user engagement.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, and Design teams worldwide to align business needs with technology and provide analytic insights.
• Diagnose and resolve production issues across the entire technology stack promptly.
• Work closely with the Issuing Platform team, which manages Airwallex Cards and Transactions, as primary consumers of the notification system.

Candidate Profile

Minimum Qualifications:

• A bachelor's degree or above in computer science, engineering, or related fields with strong expertise in enterprise-grade software design and delivery.
• Minimum five years of software engineering experience using contemporary languages like Java, Python, or Go.
• At least three years of experience developing distributed systems involving middleware such as Kafka and PostgreSQL, including hands-on tuning and pipeline management.
• Proficiency in one or more of Java memory management, multithreading, concurrency, IO/NIO, and network communication.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Broad interests beyond backend development encompassing design systems, AI and search technologies, gateway solutions, and data analytics.
• Strong emphasis on automation to focus efforts on impactful tasks and proactively minimize technical debt.
• Experience working with distributed databases such as PostgreSQL, Redis, or NoSQL solutions.
• Knowledge of messaging patterns and system resilience.
• Hands-on experience with full Kafka implementation.
