About the Company
First Focus is a mid-market managed service provider with a strong presence across Australia, New Zealand and the Philippines. The business has grown steadily over more than 15 years and is working toward becoming New Zealand’s leading MSP. The culture is built around keeping teams informed, aligned, supported and rewarded for strong performance.
The company places value on giving capable people real responsibility, backing them properly, and keeping the workplace practical, collaborative and free from unnecessary politics.
Role Overview
This is a senior client-facing position centered on strategy, trusted advice and long-term relationships rather than day-to-day ticket management. As a Technical Account Manager, you will guide a portfolio of small and mid-market clients in Christchurch and surrounding markets, helping senior leaders make informed decisions about technology, risk, security, investment and future IT direction.
The role sits at the crossroads of business and technology. You will discuss infrastructure, cloud and security topics with technical teams, while also helping executives understand priorities, return on investment, risk exposure and roadmap choices. The ideal person combines technical credibility, commercial judgment and strong relationship-building ability.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the main technical and strategic point of contact for your assigned client portfolio.
- Run quarterly business reviews, roadmap sessions and planning meetings that deliver meaningful outcomes.
- Convert technical advice into clear business value and practical next steps.
- Spot opportunities to improve security, strengthen infrastructure and make investment decisions more effective.
- Support customers in moving from reactive support to CORE, the company’s service offering focused on securing environments, managing AI and automation, improving governance and producing measurable ROI.
- Partner with engineering and service delivery teams to ensure promises are met and outcomes are delivered.
- Create durable, trusted client relationships where customers feel genuinely supported.
What We’re Looking For
- Background as a Technical Account Manager, IT Consultant or a similar role in an MSP or multi-client environment.
- Solid technical knowledge across infrastructure, cloud, security and modern workplace environments.
- Ability to communicate confidently with both IT professionals and senior executives.
- Good commercial understanding, including budgets, value conversations and long-term planning.
- A calm, practical and solution-oriented approach when issues become complex.
- Strong ownership, clear communication and dependable follow-through.
- Alignment with the company’s values and way of working.
Benefits and Perks
- Competitive pay package, with salary of up to NZ$90,000 plus additional benefits.
- Access to Uprise, including one-on-one support with qualified psychologists or counsellors at no cost.
- Flexible working arrangements to support work-life balance.
- “Never Stop Growing” support, including 10 paid study days each year, exam fees covered and additional learning support, subject to conditions.
- Ongoing internal training and access to a learning library.
- FastTrack mentoring program.
- MAD Council involvement, with a focus on equality, charity and the environment.
- Regular team social events and a strong workplace culture.
