About the Role

The Metadata team plays a critical role in our platform, managing APIs and services such as discovery, catalog, lineage, and run history that help customers understand and trust their data.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design and delivery of large, team-wide projects involving multiple engineers within the Metadata services.
  • Architect new subsystems independently and take full ownership of critical components end-to-end.
  • Utilize AI tools throughout the software development lifecycle for documentation, tests, and reviews.
  • Conduct thorough technical design reviews to maintain high standards and address potential design issues prior to release.
  • Drive key technical initiatives across discovery API, catalog, lineage, and run history areas.
  • Set and enforce best practices in design, architecture, and coding quality.
  • Mentor and coach team members, enhancing overall code quality and team capability.
  • Produce technical documentation and ensure project deliverables are well-documented.
  • Optimize and troubleshoot critical systems to improve reliability and performance.
  • Participate in on-call rotations to support operational stability.

Required Qualifications

  • Over 8 years of experience in software engineering with proven leadership in managing complex, technical projects.
  • Expertise in designing and owning distributed, cloud-based subsystems.
  • Experience setting strategic technical directions and managing multi-engineer projects.
  • Strong judgment in system architecture and the ability to identify and solve design flaws.
  • Consistently produces high-quality, well-tested code and reliably meets sprint commitments.
  • Track record of elevating engineering standards via code reviews, mentorship, and enforcing best practices.
  • Collaborative experience working with quality engineering teams on test strategy and maintaining operational health.
  • Proficiency in backend or systems languages such as Python, Java, C++, or C#.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes), and development infrastructure management.
  • Advanced use of AI coding assistants and conversational AI tools (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT) to create, review, and synthesize development lifecycle documents and code.

Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of data processing pipelines (ETL/ELT) and cloud data platforms.
  • Experience architecting systems for metadata management, cataloging, lineage, or search/discovery.
  • Familiar with GraphQL APIs and managing high-throughput, multi-tenant services.
  • Understanding of analytics engineering workflows and the dbt ecosystem.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this position in Ontario is between $162,157 and $198,877 USD annually, including potential bonuses and incentives, which may vary by role, level, and location.
