Software Development Manager, Retail Business Services Tech

About the Role

Retail Business Services (RBS) supports Amazon's worldwide retail expansion through key focus areas including Selection (sourcing and enriching product data to boost Gross Merchandise Sales), Defect Elimination (addressing supply chain errors and implementing root cause solutions to enhance cash flow), and operational support for global retail teams in technology gaps. The RBS tech team builds automation tools utilizing Machine Learning and Deep Learning to perform complex tasks with human-like cognition, ensuring Amazon’s catalog data is comprehensive and accurate, thus promoting excellent customer experiences. Cutting-edge technologies like Large Language Models (LLM) are employed to push retail automation forward.

We seek a seasoned Software Development Manager who deeply understands software systems' complexities and possesses broad expertise across machine learning, Generative AI, and big data processing technologies. This leader should create generalized platforms and reusable services adaptable to various use cases, expediting business rollouts.

Responsibilities

You will collaborate with a diverse set of stakeholders including engineers, product managers, business owners, program managers, and operations teams to design and implement significant automation initiatives streamlining large-scale retail processes that power Amazon’s retail engine. Your role encompasses guiding and facilitating intricate discussions among teams, dependencies, and clients, and proactively removing obstacles to foster innovation.

Managing multiple competing priorities in a dynamic environment will be essential. You will ensure high-quality, timely delivery of projects meeting broad business and organizational requirements and must be ready to engage deeply in technical details when necessary.

Requirements

• Minimum of 7 years experience in software engineering.
• At least 3 years of experience managing engineering teams.
• Over 8 years leading the design and development of multi-tier web services.
• Strong knowledge of engineering practices and lifecycle processes including coding standards, code reviews, version control, builds, testing, certification, and production operations.
• Experience collaborating with product and program management teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Proven ability to communicate with users, technical teams, and senior leadership for requirements gathering, explaining software features, designs, and product strategies.
• Experience recruiting, mentoring, coaching, and managing software engineering teams to enhance their capabilities and effectiveness.
