Job description
Overview
The Network Administrator role involves overseeing the computing environment by identifying network needs, installing necessary upgrades, and continuously monitoring network performance to ensure optimal operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with users to define network specifications by assessing workflow, access, security, and information requirements; design router management including interface setup and routing protocols.
- Evaluate network performance metrics such as availability, utilization, throughput, goodput, and latency; manage the installation, configuration, testing of networking equipment; develop and enforce network policies and firewall implementations.
- Monitor and analyze network performance actively; perform performance tuning and troubleshooting; escalate complex issues to vendors when necessary.
- Implement and maintain network security by managing access control, monitoring activities, and keeping detailed documentation.
- Facilitate user readiness through designing and delivering training programs and providing ongoing support and references.
- Coordinate upgrades by liaising with vendors; test, evaluate, and deploy enhancements to the network.
- Support budgeting processes by submitting relevant information and tracking expenses.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge by engaging in training, reviewing professional literature, networking with peers, and participating in relevant professional organizations.
- Ensure confidentiality and protection of organizational information assets.
- Proactively contribute to organizational goals by embracing new responsibilities and seeking opportunities to add value.
Qualifications and Skills
- Demonstrated experience as a Network Administrator.
- Practical expertise with networking, routing, and switching technologies.
- Strong understanding of server infrastructure management, control, and monitoring best practices.
- Experience with firewall configuration, Internet VPN implementation, troubleshooting, and problem resolution preferred.
- Capability to install and configure server hardware effectively.
- Knowledge of backup and recovery software and methodologies.
- Excellent organizational, prioritization, and multitasking abilities.
- Certifications such as CCNA, Network+, CCNP, CCDP, or CCIE or equivalents are required.
- Educational background includes a BSc in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Associate’s degree or equivalent from a technical school focused on electronics is necessary; Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
